  1. Which is why it is so unusual to see some of you grown men love shows aimed at little girls. It is easy to understand why grown men might still enjoy show aimed at little boys. All grown men were once little boys. Since when were grown men once little girls?

I said "young women," not "little girls." (And no, I've never been a young woman, before you ask.)

And I can enjoy Jane Austen novels, too. It really isn't difficult.

If you really don't like women, then, yeah, it would be difficult to accept something aimed at them. If you have a very narrow conception of what you can enjoy based on whether you've got a dick or not, then it's gonna be hard to accept.

Me, I just want an interesting story with stuff that's new to me.

And I happen to LIKE women.

  2. I'm not doubting it. There are lots of pictures online and stuff.

    But data is data.

    It is part of business.

Bandai and/or BW and/or Victor must have some public data showing which demographic bought their stuff the most.

Maybe they do, I don't know.

The fact that a few times a year they would have "Oshare ["stylish"] Macross" temporary shops open up in several major department stores (and the merchandise on sale was usually decidedly feminine) or that most of the events were held in areas where young women usually shop should tell you a lot, though.

  3. It's not about just "liking" more.

It's about who actually purchased more stuff.

    People buy stuff.

There should be some actual data about it.

I mentioned the events. Those cost money to get in, and had plenty of merchandise. There's a street in Ikebukuro with several anime shops catering primarily to female fans, and Frontier stuff was always there. I know plenty of cosplayers who bought Sheryl and Ranka outfits.

I'm not sure why you're doubting any of this...

  4. If memory serves - they had reaction weapons, but lost them (either used them all up, or they held onto them until the reactive material in them exceeded its half-life - can't remember which exactly, could be both).

Nevertheless, again if memory serves, the Zentraadi were more interested in the ability to repair.

Yeah... That's pretty much it. They used up their supply of reaction weapons and couldn't make more. The fact that humans had them AND had the ability to repair things made them fascinating to the Zentradi.
  5. I'll be very interested in any data that shows that the japanese young women actually purchased more Frontier and Delta merchandises (concerts, manga, cd's, dvd's, valks, etc) and stuff.

Most events I went to seemed about half and half, although some, like the life-size Valk in Ikebukuro DEFINITELY had more women. And more women I met liked Frontier than men. And I'm not talking about at geek gatherings, either, just normal hang-outs.

It's all circumstantial, I know, but I went to nearly every Macross event that was held during the four years I was in Tokyo, so I think I have a pretty good idea.

  6. It ain't really Japanese old men, imo. I reckon most of them don't even care about anime and stuff. They most likely don't even watch any anime at all.

It is squarely the japanese otaku (most likely, the japanse idols-otaku) that the Delta-commitee are aiming and pandering heavily to.

That otaku-demographic seem to be the biggest merchandising purchasers of this new phase of "trend" over there lately. See Love Live! and other similar stuff being sold heavily on japanese collectible-shops like ami.

    Money talks. Especially, cash...

No, they're aiming the show first and foremost at young women. It's been this way for quite a while now.

  7. So is Macross Graffiti the only piece of fiction where she exists?

IIRC, she's listed in other works... In fact, she must be, because I got Macross Graffiti about ten years ago or so, but I knew about Miku in the '80s. She was probably mentioned in Macross Guide Book (which I no longer have).

  8. It feels like a mess to me.

Before the big action scene it seemed like your typical cutesy anime that Macross Frontier often was. Then they started fighting I'm sorry I meant singing. Oh so this is Sailor moon or something? Then in the final 5 minutes they start having serious mecha duels. If it wasn't for the appearance of Zentradi mecha and Valkyries I wouldn't be able to identify this as Macross.

They're obviously smart in trying to make the most mass marketable product that they can but I wonder why keep calling it Macross at all? Can't they just call these new series generic cutie pie singing group the series? Calling it Macross I guess allows them to sale mecha toys.

I think if cash were the ONLY motivation, they would've just made more Frontier. It would've been a safer bet.
  9. When was she born? Because I looked in Macross Graffiti and they were in the park with the Jenius family. Were the Jenius family on the Megaroad-01 and then departed on a different journey part way?

Well... That sequence in Graffiti was pretty much invalidated by later events in the series. Note that there, they even changed to a new calendar, and the caption for that pic places it in "Year 0003 of the New Era."

Plus, the way Misa meets Riber and the way her mother dies are vastly different than in "White Reminiscences."

  10. I'm not big on reading transcripts of conversations, or on writing them, as some do...

Well... That's the trick, isn't it? You need to write dialogue in a way that it moves the action forward AND shows the characters for who they are AND doesn't slow down the plot too much.
