I think we need some insights about the state of idol groups and mahou shoujo shows in the Japanese mainstream, to understand Delta's pop environment and demographics better.
It seems to me that the simple mahou shoujo wave is long gone, with shows like Madoka Magica deconstructing the magic girl genre. Its not clear to me what the target market is for Delta, because the echii transformation scene seems aimed at otaku fanboys, not young girls. While the musical performances are clearly aimed for younger girls.
As for idol group phenomena, Miku and AKB48 seem to be still going strong with non-stop merchandise.
AKB48's Loving Fortune Cookie and Flying Get have 88 million and 44 million views respectively on Youtube.
So what is "cool in Japan" right now? What is not cool? Where can we expect Delta to go, and not go?
I said "young women." Roy Focker took that to mean "little girls."
What are you on about?

Totally not hinting at anything whatsoever. No siree.
So we have a strict by the book pilot, a kind of a jerk freelancer with a questionable array of skills, and a ditzy little girl who may or may not have the ability to imitate songstresses to whatever means to an end. But it has nothing to do with a certain non-canon OVA from the 90's. Nope.
I'm on Team Mirage.
Oh, I see nothing that you're hinting.
(*ahem* Makina...)

No, it's like Frontier. It'll start in April and continue weekly until it ends.

WHY IS THERE NO FAN ART OF THE CHARACTERS OUT YET??!!! C'MON JAPAN, YOU DISAPPOINT!!!
I've seen several... Your Google-fu is too weak.
-
i wouldn't call her a Priestess of the Wind... The Wind and the Sea, maybe...
-
Anyone else think Messer and Hayate will be rivals of sorts when he finally joins Delta squadron?
Oh yeah.
-
Mirage then. best character
Possibly. For now, Makina had me at "Regult-chan."
-
He said BESIDES the Valkyries...man you're both leaving out the best part
Mirage w delta 04

Apples.
Onigiri.

Well, it's all opinion, anyway, so YMMV... I thought the building designs on Al Shahal were really cool. I loved seeing the Regults in action. I've been listening to "Ikenai Borderline" pretty much nonstop for the past few days. The boomerang drones were awesome. Mikumo's song attack at the Q-Rau was badass. The dogfight at the end was great. I like Freyja. The "magical girl" transformations made me laugh. The opening with the suicide bomber was shocking. Having Guld as the narrator and the Delta captain was a nice throwback.Dude! Tell me one good thing about this first episode, besides the valkyrie designs. Which by the way are not the best of Kawamori's work.
Should I go on...?

Could be it's one of the dialects/accents found on the fringes? Like Okinawan Japanese (I think), but even more geographically isolated, which would explain why it sounds strange to Japanese ears. People simply have not heard it (or rarely) on a nationally televised show.
It didn't sound familiar to me (although, unlike some dialects, I could definitely hear the difference), but on the podcast, they seemed to think it was some kind of Kyushu accent... maybe.

Yes, you're the only one. No one else in this thread has said anything remotely negative at all.Am I the only one who sees that load of crap as what it is? I'm officially done with any new macross stuff. That was insulting. I guess Satelight likes money better too.
And OF COURSE Satelight likes money. People generally like to get paid.
-
Don't. Care.
Then why comment in the first place?
-
Yes, it was. Completely done by good ol' Star Pro. Pay the wonky designs no mind. What happened to the Monsters that were badly animated in SDFM Ep32? The back guns have a wide separation in the middle, and they almost look like each pair of guns (left & right) are stacked vertically.
Was it another outsourced episode?
Unless you're Toynami, and want to make a "YF-1R," because everyone LOVES toys based on animation mistakes!

It just seems a little strange for grown men to like things intended for the exact opposite audience. Is there something wrong with that? Maybe or maybe not but it still is strange.
Strange how?
-
I've heard it's wholesome, well-written family entertainment. It doesn't appeal to me, but I don't see much that's creepy about it.I reckon it's just really creepy for grown men to be doing that If they're not doing it for the lulz...
(What some audience members DO with it is another story, but I feel the same way about, say Simpsons porn.)
-
I've never seen My Little Pony, but I have to ask... Is there something wrong with grown men watching it?Hey I've watched and enjoyed programming that was intended more for female audiences. Most of it tried to maintain a balance that all audience could enjoy something. The focus on Delta is just too directed towards girls that like cutesy magical girls. Maybe grown men liking this type of anime is like grown men liking My Little Pony.
Because that's the tone I get from your posts about Delta: that if men like it, there's something wrong with them, or they aren't "grown-up" enough, or SOMETHING.
now maybe I'm mistaken about that, but that's the vibe your posts give off.

Not a commercial. It was the opening used for the 1992 rebroadcast of the show.

She's the biggest badass so far, definitely.Well, okay I'll concede that I think any of them have the potential to be best girl. It's just that Mikumo is bestest girl lol.
-
Mirage is best girl. Thats all.
You misspelled "Makina."

*breaks out Macross Chronicle*Was she mentioned in any media made after the story of the disappearance of the Megaroad-01?
Nope, no listing in the glossary... And no mention in the glossary entries for Hikaru and Misa, either.

I also wonder if the Skull Squadron member(I think at the beginning of Romanesque?) was Millard from Macross Plus. I think there's a profile out there somewhere that says he was a member of Skull Squadron at some point.
It can't be... he shows up in Macross Classic ~ Inside Story, which is set during the "lost two years," and he loses his leg there. So he would've been out of Skull by the time the post-war episodes start.
And speaking of those post-war episodes... Here are episodes 29 and 30! We're nearing the end!

Another Macross Rewatch
in Movies and TV Series

It's a little bit more than that (and one change kind of infuriates me), as I've said several times on the blog (including in today's posts!).
