  1. Even the original SDF Macross introduced like nine characters in the first episode. Imagine if you only got to watch that and didn't get the second episode until months later. For the original show the first two episodes are closely associated because of how they aired back to back, so I understand not being able to look back and see how even then it could be confusing to new viewers.

    Excellent point.
  2. That's not really how preview episodes work. The final version will have footage added, not removed f^_^;)

It'll probably have a few bits removed... It has to stay at 25 minutes, after all. And then the BD will include the "full" version. Just like Frontier...

On a previous topic, I don't get the complaints about there being too many characters, really. They're still grouped together: four members of Walküre, four pilots for those four members. The focus is definitely still on Hayate and Freyja and Mirage and Mikumo.

Maybe adding the Aerial Knights was a bit too much, but we know these six guys are members of a team.

No one complains when Lord of the Rings debuts all nine Nazgul at the same time (good Lord! We're less than half an hour into the movie! And there's NINE new characters!), because we understand that they're a group. I don't think anyone was confused about who was a pilot for which faction, or which girls were in Walküre and which weren't. No, we don't know what their personalities are (mostly), or what the Aerial Knights are trying to accomplish, but that's the kind of mystery that's meant to be EXCITING.

Whether it is or not, of course, is up to your personal taste, but by grouping all the characters into a few different factions, I think they sidestepped most confusion.

  3. ??

How did this bomb get set off? I make an observation that the article is providing a less than comprehensive presentation of the new series, especially when compared to past articles in Newtype (if it even comes from Newtype), and not only do I get my head chewed off, but statements I never proffered are being attributed to me.

Nevertheless, a further question to the OP: were there any other pages in the article? Or just the ones scanned?

Sorry, I wasn't trying to set off a bomb or bite your head off, and I apologize if I misconstrued your meaning.
  4. How is that a valid response to someone saying "I'm bummed they didn't highlight the mechanical designs."? Sketchley didn't imply that music isn't a pillar of Macross. It's an oddly petulant response to an observation.

No, but it's unusual... "There are three pillars of Macross, why didn't they highlight the one that *I* wanted them to...?"

So, for now, they highlighted the music. I'm sure mecha detail will be forthcoming.

  5. Could be convergent evolution. Or whatever it's called when something's invented in two different places/times independent of each other.

But seriously, WHY Sharon Apple? They must be really good at separating the artist from their music...

Well, in the liner notes for the Macross 7 album, Music from Galaxy Network Chart, it looks like they just rejiggered her and called her "Sharon Apple-R." And she's still in the top 5.
  6. I thought the reviewer expended a lot of effort complaining about being inundated with too many characters and subplots.

I for one was delighted with amount of stuff we were introduced to in character, plot, setting terms.

FAR too many anime suffer from sluggish/turgid/painful exposition and plot development.

If Delta can keep the tempo the of 1st episode (most of the time at least) it will buck that god awful trend and hopefully keep us all interested.........except for the guy who wrote the review obviously

He spent a lot of the review complaining, but concluded that it looked interesting and that he wanted to see more, though...
