  1. I have been working on this guy for awhile but have decided to sell him to make room for other things (YF-30, the elusive 25S reissue, etc...). Before I let him go I thought I would share some pics with the rest of you destroid lovers.
  2. I lightly sanded it (but its tough to get in all the nooks), primered it, and then painted it. I even put a light coat of clear on it. Lastly, I think waiting a long time, ie weeks, for the paint to cure (not just surface dry) is helpful. But even with all that, the transformation will chip it. This is partly why mine was fixed into fighter mode (the other reason was the modded wings) ....goodness, the transformation even chips the factory paint, so what hope do we really have.
  3. I just listed my custom YF-24 Evolution on ebay. I used an RVF-25 Luca Renewal for it, and now have a few ghosts for my own collection.
  4. I decided to just make it as a display piece, to avoid wear and tear, and it actually doesn't have a functional head. I've actually listed it on ebay to make room in my collection for more Macross stuff, for the giant waves of new toys keep on coming.
  5. Agreed! I like that one better too. I just had to satisfy my urge for a low viz. Harry
  6. I know it doesn't follow the line art exactly, but it's the best I could do with the parts I had. But seriously, I wish Bandai would make one. This was made with a Luca RVF-25, some vf-171 wings and one antennae, and a few extra parts. Unfortunately it doesn't transform, but it's nice to display in fighter mode.
  7. Just a little fin off the back bottom. Box was sealed so I'm sure it fell off on the factory floor somewhere. All the other fins are very tightly affixed. Oh well
  8. Thanks! ...and yes, that is the SH Figuarts War Machine. (I only collect Macross now, but that figure is ridiculously well done)
  9. I got the Luca renewal fastpack set with the Ghosts but one of them was missing a fin! ... So I decided to customize the set (even though the CF one is coming out next year) because I like the little antennae/gun thingies on the fast packs. So now you can see a few more CF fastpack pics ahead of time! ... And I had to build a little stand out of Lego to display the Ozma armor set because I can't wait around forever for the Ozma renewal! Come on Bandai!
  10. Finally transformed one of them to fighter mode! I'm listing the pair on auction to make room in my collection for future Macross stuff.
  11. I'm going to let the paint cure a bit more, and then, in about week I'll transform it into fighter mode. I'll probably add some decals to it too. I'm selling one of the two on eBay.
  12. I just used a krylon-brand enamel primer before any painting. I'm confident it would hold, but it's always better to sand things first. A fine grit, wet-sand paper would be enough I would think.
  13. Well... I always hoped Bandai would release a crazy Stealth or Low-Viz version of some of their Macross Frontier valks, but I couldn't wait any longer, so I customized my Cannon Fodder. Hope you like it!
  14. I have one other VB-6 that I still want to customize, but here's my old one (which I might let go to fund my future DX purchases)
  15. You should buy the armor for the cannon fodder, because it'll have the same parts, and then you get some cool WMDs as well.
  16. I know a few people have made this custom before, but I just took some new pics in fighter mode with the appropriate arm-mounted weaponry. I might list my second one online for auction. Next, I'm thinking of either customizing a Vf-171 in a real world, low-vis. grey, or maybe a stealth black... But no time for that right now.
  17. Darnit! Now I'm only going to squint when looking at my 171's. I don't want to have to try to "un-see-it" later on.
  18. I'm sure they don't get 100 units (that's why i said, "say, 100 units" meaning "whatever number they get). What i should have stated was that they get "x" units, and they post "<x" for preorder, 12 hours and a price bump, then they would post a few more, etc... Again, not complaining. I think all's fair in Macross collecting. Just funny how quick their preorder cycle of "open--> closed--> pause--> price bump --> open" and so on, goes. If they are acquiring more units from other sources, and that explains this phenomenon, that's cool too. I've been working, and subsequently missed all the preorder windows. I'm currently selling my Ozma renewal on ebay, in hopes that they reissue it, and I can snag one down the road at a lesser price. Oh, crazy Macross obsession. Harry
  19. I love Nippon Yasan, and I think it's totally fair for them to charge the market value for their product (which is really determined by us). I've order twice from them before, both times for just a slight markup (I was lucky with the timing). But am I the only one who is pretty certain they have, say 100 units. They put 40 on preorder, they sell out fast. Then they wait a fair 12-24 hours, nudge the price up, and put 20 more on sale... And so on. Whatever. It is what it is.
  20. I also have an extra set of the armor parts, but excluding the arm guns/cannons, on ebay. So, if you want to display a fighter Alto with all the missiles, or if chest and leg armor is your thing, check it out.
  21. Photoshop would have been a much cheaper way to go! I used Krylon grey primer and tocoat from Mr. Hobby to match the satin/semi-gloss finish of the black already on the 171. If you look closely at the last "1" on the chest, the front of the head and the stripes at the front of the ankle (too wide), you can see some errors, but all-in-all I'm happy. I'm so worried about paint chipping I'm scared to transform it, but maybe on the weekend when I have time. Thanks for the good words!
