...Just checked the opening from episode 1, Megaroad-4 was the ship that discovered Eden according to the map. The ship could have after finishing its mission been reconfigured and sent back out as a ship of the line and eventually become part of the research fleet.

Personally I find myself to be totally freaking awesome.

Well they don't really spread people out enough to drop the detail completely out. Though I have noticed they seem to be trying to fake some pretty extreme camera lenses which gives some shots some interesting looks. Though I didn't really equate that to any of the odd shots in this episode...
