Looks so beautiful even with low res pictures šŸ˜„, never had the opportunity to have the YamatoĀ  or the Arcadia one due to its high selling price, even the standalone booster is very effing expensive,Ā  so no way I'm skipping this Arcadia package release, I hope it sells fine enough so maybe just maybe Arcadia considers releasing the VF-19s and VF-19p as well.Ā Ā

This scheme is a fun nod to the M7 opening credits. I like to think that Firebomber would lean in on that kind of glitz and glam during a live concert.

That's not what they're implying. She knows how to handle a lightsaber, but she has no power (as is stated in one of the trailers).

If you check my earlier comments, youā€™ll notice I had the same read before this latest trailer. Now Iā€™m not so sure. There is a heavy lean into the rule of two business from the prequels. Weā€™ve seen the dark side users. We know Ahsoka is around, but who else is there apart from the surviving Ghost crew? Ezra is still lost, soā€¦that leaves room for someone else.

I think the no power statement could be a literal read from Shin in that scene or it could be an insult from her. Kind of like how Vader was goading Luke to attack him in their confrontation at Cloud City in ESB. We wonā€™t know until we get more context. Like I said, Iā€™m good regardless, but it is curious and it does feel like it could be used for somethingā€¦

    Then again, maybe not. HaHa!

Iā€™m so looking forward to this series.

  3. Knowing how Filoni likes to mend past SW shortfalls, I think it would be cool if this show retcons Reyā€™s RoS/TLJ retcon and gives a better retelling for her family history.

There were some old Reddit theories discussing how Sabine might be Reyā€™s mother. The idea that the trailers are implying Sabine could be a force userā€”more than a dark saber wielder but also Ahsokaā€™s apprenticeā€”give this theory extra credence. I guess we will have to see how things go. Iā€™m okay either way, but that would sure be a fun easter egg and not an uncommon thing for Filoni to work in.Ā

Talos was being replaced by Furyā€™s lady. She said it at the end. I know Fury is supposed to be in the Marvels, but itā€™s been delayed so much, that I think it was supposed to be out before this show, I have a feeling there were quick changes made to compensate for the delays

Falsworth seems like a temporary replacement for Fury, but not as much a permanent replacement, maybe more of a British stand in for a couple of the upcoming projectsĀ

    Ā

    Varra replacing Talos?

    Spoiler

Ok. I can see that. Talos wanted to do things diplomatically but kept being goaded into his role as a great Skrull general or somesuch. Since he died, he wasnā€™t able to fully embrace his diplomatic side for obvious reasons. šŸ’© happens. Makes sense to me.

Varra is shown amongst the Skrull community in the showā€™s flashbacks. She even seemed to still be in contact with Gravik. But the change from estranged wife to diplomat was a jolt. I expected to see her doing more for the Skrulls, more to keep them hidden, to keep the peace on earth before Gravik went bonkers. Stuff like that builds up her character.

Instead, yeah, things are implied, inferred, or assumed, and we get the dialogue at the end when she and Fury leave together. I donā€™t mind putting the focus on her new motives, but there wasnā€™t a lot there to help me make the leap with them.

    Oh well.Ā

Just finished watching it. Itā€™s the first Iā€™ve the marvel shows that I didnā€™t try to watch as it was being released and while I agree that it wasnā€™t good, itā€™s still better than She Hulk and Ms Marvel. This show definitely didnā€™t have the budget that earlier D+ shows had and kinda looks and feels more like the shield tv show.
Itā€™s another Disney replacement story that pretends that itā€™s something bigger, but is really a lot of fluff. Talos gets a female replacement, Nick Fury gets a hopefully only temporary female replacement and then has a female superhero that can pretty much do everything and is somehow stronger than a highly trained twice advanced supervillain even though sheā€™s so small her eyes were barely at the top of the steering wheel when she was drivingĀ
Itā€™s unfortunate that we finally get a show with Nick Fury and heā€™s mostly a damsel in distress that constantly needs rescuing . And the worst part is that the story is so unnecessary at the end when he finally says they worked things out with the Kree. That info couldā€™ve save over 2,000 lives. Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā Itā€™s like the writers and production crew just phoned it in. Iā€™d put this show lower, but the actors really couldnā€™t be faulted here and even though the show was poorly written, they did a good job with crap materialĀ

Eh. I liked She Hulk and Ms. Marvel more than Secret Invasion. Of the three, Ms. Marvel stands strongest on its own because it also works as a coming of age story for Kamala Khan. She Hulk was all right but I think its experimental ending went too hard with the 4th-wall hulk smashing.Ā

With Secret Invasion, I think fault for the miss rests squarely on Disney for forcing its creative teams to pump and dump half-baked productions. The mouse is driving this content like itā€™s the media equivalent of fast food. So quality is no longer a priority. The company is mistreating actors, writers, and set workers alike, and the focus is on benefiting those with deep pockets.

    Anyway, I digressā€¦

    Spoiler

As @MogĀ noted earlier, there is a lot of important character development in Secret Invasion that felt like it was left on the editing table. We didnā€™t really see how the blip changed Fury. We are told that it changed him. We see him helping the Skrulls pre-Blip and we see how he became distant post-Blip. There isnā€™t much connecting those versions of his character. Really, itā€™s only the conversations he has with Varra and Hill, and I think there should have been more.

With Talos and Gā€™iah the story should have been developing another parallel complex relationship dynamic. Unfortunately, again, not much is shown. We are told about their rift and how Gā€™iah and Talos are not exactly on speaking terms. It is inferred that Talos wants to build a bridge and the the story moves in that direction. We even see how Talos and Gā€™iah are helping to find the Skrulls a new home in their own ways. But Gā€™iah is shown to be rebellious and stubborn. We donā€™t see her empathy until the final episodes, and that change is a sudden thing.

I didnā€™t see Gā€™iah as replacing Talos or Falsworth as replacing Fury, so i canā€™t speak to that myself.

After I posted, I went and watched the video. I actually kind of dig the stylized VF-1J. The fighter mode reminds me of the VF-2SS, which someone already pointed out. Ā Whatever the case, hope it is good quality and affordable.

    Cool.

Yeah, it is nice to see more designers work on the classic Macross designs. Iā€™ll be keeping an eye on Unix Square too. If their releases are solid, Iā€™ll be happy to add some of them to my display.Ā B))

  7. 3 hours ago, twich said:

So, Iā€™m confused since everything is in prototype greyā€¦.the VF-1J says it is a transformable action figure, but the thing with the VF-1D head is a non-transforming action figure?

it is difficult to gauge scale from a still photo. How big is this? HMR size, or closer to the new ThreeZero or Arcadia size?

    Thanks!

    Twich

So Unix Square has announced their own stylized and transformable VF-1J. Thatā€™s the first image. They also announced that the 1J/1S are part of a new line of non-transformable figures. Thatā€™s the fourth image. No idea what is up with guardian or bat mode for the non-transformable line. We will have to wait for more details.

The other images that were quoted are new armoured statues and VF-1 levitation models.

  8. Bandai is like, ā€œDang, now weā€™re on the hook for more than a painted prototype.ā€

Put me in the group thatā€™s looking forward to more development news. I had bad luck with the Yamato YF-21. My copy had brittle plastic and crumbled while on display, so I could use an affordable replacement.

  9. Interesting eye catch for the Loki season 2 poster. It reminds me of a hamster wheel. Hm. There could be some unfortunate double entendre thereā€¦will have to see how things go.

Alas, Secret Invasion ranks the lowest for me of the Disney produced content. Much lower when compared to other entries like CA: Civil War and CA: The Winter Soldier. The series felt like it was trying too hard to set up something else rather than tell its own contained story. This was the first time the CGI effects jumped out at me. I didnā€™t care for Disney showcasing AI art in the intro, either.

    Spoiler

Gravikā€™s relationship to Fury was convoluted. I think we are meant to think Fury adopted him or something after he got together with Varra. But the show only leads the audience on with this idea and never gives a clear picture like it does with Furyā€™s wedding ring and the conversations he has with Varra when he returns home.

There is also no resolution with Gravik like there was with Varra at the end. The real Fury was off saving Rhodey.

When Hill dies, I was disappointed that it didnā€™t change Fury much at all. Here was one of his closest friends who got shot to death by his doppelgƤnger and he continues to act like heā€™s lost or disconnected to whatā€™s going on around him. Talos seemed more invested in doing something. And, sure, it could be grief but as the audience we never get insight as to why Fury was blindsided.

If we knew that Gravik was important to him, that would have been important character development. It would have given the audience a notion of Furyā€™s moral quandary where one soul he cared about had just betrayed another to hurt him.Ā

Speaking of Talos, the show spends so much time setting up how he and Gā€™iah fell out with each other. Things were so bad that Gā€™iah wasnā€™t even aware that her mother had passed away. But somehow Gā€™iah does her own 180. Was it Gravik attacking Talos or him going bonkers on the other Skrulls in the compound? Regardless, she ends up working with Fury, takes her Super-Skrull powers and confronts him. It still felt like I missed a few important scenes where her heart grew two sizes.

Curious side note: If the Super-Skrull powers made Gravik even more unstable psychologically, then what negative side effects might Gā€™iah get from them? Why didnā€™t we see the cost of these powers affecting her as well?

So, to go on a related tangent, I heard about the animated movie Earthā€™s Mightiest Heroes: Secret Invasion after watching the live action series. I noticed that the animated movie includes many of the Avengers in its story, and that ups the stakes. Yeah, I really felt how the live action Secret Invasion series was missing the Avengers. Would it have been better served as a movie with ensemble casting? Something to think about, I guess.

  10. SinƩad was ahead of her time when it came to her music, her activism, and her spiritual journey, but she was also very open about her personal struggles with bipolar disorder and other mental health issues.

I remember her SNL performance. I was in high school when it was broadcast.Ā

I feel this place is lessened in her absence.

Without a doubt the blame is shared here. Still doesn't change all the writers involved showed zero skill when dumbing down everyone else to pedestal the lead.Ā

Agree to disagree on that last part, but my bias has been and will always be pro-writer.

As for the prequel films themselves, they do deserve all the constructive criticism they receive. In addition to what Seto noted already, I thought Prometheus went astray by turning David into the main monster if you will.Ā

Mind you, I donā€™t mind having ancillary villains in an Alien film. Ash was a good one. So was Burke. Itā€™s just that Davidā€™s errant behavior wasnā€™t as nuanced to me. I was also bummed that Noomi Rapace was only in the first film. Almost all of her shot scenes in Covenant were cut, and those scenes ended up explaining quite a bit.

So to bring this back on topic, I hope the new series brings back some consistency because I do think that has been missing.

  12. 35 minutes ago, Raikkonen said:

Possibly. The discarded prototype due to having a moralist chip.Ā

It's simply uncreative writers that instead of building a strong protagonist through challenges and interactions, they create a lone survivor that stands out by dumbing down everyone else.Ā

Hm. Generally, original script writers have no say in script development unless they are also hired on to help produce a TV show or movie. For instance, Jon Spaihts wrote the Alien Engineers script that was purchased and became Prometheus.

We all know the final script was reworked by Damon Lindelof who was on the production team with Sir Ridley Scott.

There is some debate over whether or not Spaihtsā€™ script is better, but the general sentiment is that it was closer to hard SF/horror and that Lindelof added the silly bits. Of course, at any time Scott could have opted to reverse those changes soā€¦ plenty of blame to go aroundā€¦

Wait what? Okay wow, he looks like... 12 or 13 years old in that picture.

HaHa, yeah, I feel older knowing that most of the known cast was born mid 1990s in real life. Of the entire known cast, I think Essie Davis is the one Gen-Xer I was able to confirm. But, yeah, they all lucked out in the looks department (IMO).

As for the new series itself, Iā€™m doing my best to temper expectations. Iā€™m hopeful that it works well as its own self-contained story, and that the Alien mythology that is woven in adds to that story instead of muddling things or taking away from it.

If Disney was smart, they would just continue the story they laid out in the Netflix show. Ā Seriously, an upgraded Bullseye could make for a good starting point.

I wonā€™t be surprised if Disney tones things down or even outright censors itself, especially with these shows that are directly connected to Disney branding. Netflix isnā€™t much better now, but they do seem less inclined to censor their own content. For that reason, Iā€™m glad Netflix got the license to produce the Marvel shows it did.

As for rating the shows, I would have a hard time doing that. I like them all for different reasons and think they each have their own strengths. Of the Disney shows, I think Falcon/Winter Soldier comes the closest to matching the in-your-face grit of the Netflix shows, and I was surprised a certain scene made it through editing.

Will Disneyā€™s Daredevil get more scenes with Fisk going full dark like in the Netflix show or will we get more of Hawkeyeā€™s Fisk? Thatā€™s a good question and a legitimate concern. I honestly have no idea.

In She Hulk, I think I read they were trying to subvert the super hero show norms. I donā€™t know how successful they were. I mean, some of it was funny but the story was all over the place at the end and Daredevil came across as a bit hammy. I liked the show the most when it focused on Jennifer Walters trying to assert her own identity, one that accepted the Hulk part, and how her Hulk wasnā€™t the same as Bruce Bannerā€™s Hulk.Ā

I saw some of either "Kinda" or "Snakedance" on broadcast, which just goes to show how much of a withered ancient I am becoming. šŸ˜ƒI don't remember very much about them (the Fifth Doctor series that I recall the most is "Earthshock", see below for why... [1]) other than the snake, the mechanical... explorer thing and some "dream" sequences.

[1] Leaving aside the ending, this is a serial where agents of the Cybermen melt humans into tiny bubbling pools of goo. In a cave. Now imagine that you've watched that, and then go on a school trip to a series of caves, which proudly advertise their association with "Doctor Who" and Cybermen... [2]Ā

[2] The Fourth, and "Revenge of the Cybermen", but this is what childhood nightmares are made of...

    Oh no. LoL!

Yeah, I can see how all that might charge a young and active imagination. IIRC, the pools of goo kept getting checked by the censors?

The Baker-era cybermats were creepy, slithery metal things. Different from the Troughton-era ones and those from the new show.

I remember ā€˜Earthshockā€™ vividly because of that ending. The silent credit roll. I think that was the first time I remember seeing a member of the main cast die. Say what you want about Davisonā€™s companions, but it left quite the impression on me.Ā

  16. Iā€™ve enjoyed all of the Disney + original series: Loki, Hawkeye, WandaVision, Ms Marvel, Falcon, She-Hulk, Moon Knightā€¦and now Secret Invasion.

But I also get the sunk cost criticism. These streaming shows are expensive to make and with people looking at streaming as more of a luxury, the studios are now having to compete to simply maintain and/or retain their user base. Iā€™m not sure how things statistically can return to a profitable model if they donā€™t change in some way. That said, I also donā€™t get the impression, especially with Iger back, that Disney wants to fix streaming in a positive way. Iger seems more intent on doubling down on old business practices and I think itā€™s too late to go back.

*shrug* Maybe Iā€™ll be surprised and the industry will figure itself out? Who knowsā€¦

  17. The second Peter Davison season, aka Classic Who season 20, has been announced for blu-ray in limited release packaging. Itā€™s been fun to see them spin these announcements into their own mini-episodes.

I hope the link worked. The Mara freaked me out when I first saw Kinda and Snakedance as a kid. Even now, it can stand the hairs up on the back of my neck.
