1. So who's the "A" hole that did this to Datterboy? I thought we are here to appreciate and support our love of Macross? Whats up with that!

    422848

People were claiming that he was showing off his joke machines because he kept bumping his own threads showing his collection of joke machines off. Then someone proved him wrong that his collection wasnt the best that there was. Datterboy wanted the rep of being KING of joke machines. It became a flame war and got quite insulting on both sides. After that Datter never really posted anymore and now this. So I don't think we should point any fingers here saying somebody is an "A" hole.

  2. Just finished talking with Datterboy on IM. I asked him why he is being so rash on giving up collecting Macross toys and that his thread is much talked about. He told me that he has nothing against Yamato but that he couldnt compete with all the other collectors out there. The many release is just overwhelming him. He also mentioned that he was really upset about the Jokemachine thread topic a while\back ago. He didnt like the fact that he was not considered the KING of joke machines. Having the most and best of it. I am sure he may come back but for now he just wants to be left alone. :(

  3. mmm...its okay. i commend you for being different. i dont think i have ever seen a different color ostrich before. maybe a grey repaint ostrich might look cool. elint's brother or sumtin.

    very nice still.

  4. I finally received mine from TMP yesterday. Very cool toy overall, and notably absent were some of the QC issues mentioned here (tailfin spikes are fine, magnets oriented correctly, etc). Typical of my luck though, I've noticed several other issues that I haven't seen anyone else report.

I have lots of blurring and smudging on the tampo printing - the black stripes on the legs and chest are the worst. The grey paint in the secondary air intakes on the chest plate is pretty spotty too. There is some grey paint overspray/smudging on the LE of the right main intake, which is pretty noticeable.  On the whole, the paint job is visually worse than that of any other Yamato I own, and that includes the rest of the 1/60s.

I also encountered another weird issue - while transforming the VF-0 for the first time, the knurled pin which holds the two leg swingbar linkages together fell out, resulting in the legs taking a three foot plunge from my desk  :o.  The pin was a royal b*tch to find , having nestled itself deep into my carpet under the desk. Luckily, it was easily replaced once found using a pair of needle-nose pliars to reinsert it, and hasn't given me any further trouble... yet.

My zero also exibits the floppy limb and foot syndrome almost everyone has mentioned. If I'm not very careful when posing it, it has the tendency to perform a knee-swivel move in a disturbingly Elvis Presley-esque fashion. :p  Don't be cruel...

Despite these seeming negatives, the design and execution are overall pretty good, and I really dig its looks... from a slight distance. I'll try to get some pics up this weekend.

Make sure you email Tam to let him know about the issues. It seems that the VF-0's coming from Tam have some really bad QC issues.

  5. I also decided to go for the GBP armor sheet. It does not have all the markings but I think they are enough to decorate the GBP and the price will be cheaper.

Looks great. But personally I'd rather have you make all the GPB stickers like on the Yamato sheet and pay a little more for them.

Random thought-And I wonder if the upcoming LV GPB will have different colored stickers?

    401766

Stop complaining and just buy it.

    401778

    He's not complaining. Be nice.

    401799

Are you gonna buy a few sets? The more you buy the more you save on shipping. Don't forget that. Its a good deal.

  7. People are buying them you should too.

    401533

I've a tight budget and small wallet!!

    LOL

I'd rather save the case to acquire more valks!

    At least for now ....

    401570

Then why did you start this topic to begin with then? You tease!!!

  8. Ok, sorry if this is a dumb newbie question: but what's the deal with the custom decals?  I've seen several posts now where someone creates custom decals for the 1/48 Yamato valkyries.  They look cool, but ...

Question is, why?  Are the stickers included with the 1/48's crap and I am just naive in thinking I should use those to apply on my valkyrie?!?!  Is there something I should be aware of - e.g., like not using them b'c they will peel off in 3 months?  What gives?  Can someone fill me in here, please?!?

  9. no, again, the stealth does NOT appear in the animation.  A dark valk appears but there's nothing to indicate it has gray trim and is anything more than DARK.  Certainly no evidence it multi-toned, a VF-1J, or has strike packs???

    401324

yEAH it doesnt have grey trim. They are just all black. They were drawn too small for detail. There were 3 all black non strike vf's. I saw it on one of the early episodes. showed 3 of them sitting together in a row in the hanger.

  10. Got my stealth over the weekend ... man, it is sweet!!  A great looking version of the valkyrie, even if it isn't part of the Macross cannon!!  For those of you who think the paint scheme looks lame - trust me, the pics do not do the item justice!!

    :)  :)

It was also my first chance to play/handle the "fast pack strike/super" parts that Yamato makes .. way cool!  Now I know what the rest of you are talking about when you say they make the 1/48 valkyries "complete".  I can't believe the detail in the missles and the engine parts ... amazing!!

I know, I know ... I sound like a total lame newbie - apologies!!  Now I am intrigued by the GDB armour ... would love to buy a set - but man, they are almost the same cost as a 1/48 valkyrie!!  And I need to build my collection!

    401250

Dude the stealth does appear in the anime as background scenes in the hanger. Not too detail but if you see the early episodes there is one episode showing 3 small all black valks in the hanger. :)

  12. This is my new set of stickers I've been working on.

Now you have 1/48 VF-1 with VF-0 1/60 stickers in one sheet.

I also made a new 1/48 sheet for the Stealth Vf-1J.

I hope to have them ready for sale in two weeks. Price will be the same:US$10 per sheet.

I am thinking of making stickers for the GBP armor, but don't know if there is enough demand for these.

  13. The parts in question can be found on page 06 of the instruction manual.  They are listed in illustrations 04 and 05.  The hinges on the grey panel (shown in illustration 05-- near rightmost arrow) which secure the backpack flap broke on mine. They were compromised when I was following step 04.  I was folding the flap back towards the backpack and I noticed the stress.  The right hinge broke later.  As Graham mentioned the flap doesn't need to fold all the way back to the backpack boosters.  I guess I followed the pic too literally. :p

This entire area is the only place on the toy I would be concerned about in regards to longevity.

    400808

Just to make it 100% clear, in none of the three modes (Fighter, Battroid or GERWALK) is the flap at the bottom of the backpack supposed to fold up.. This is where the VF-0 design differs from the VF-1.

Illustration 4 on page 6, shows that you are supposed to fold the whole backpack up and over into the GERWALK mode position, NOT fold the flap..

    DON'T TOUCH THAT FLAP!!!!

Of course if you try to fold something which is not supposed to fold, it will break.

This is more a case of not understanding the instuctions, rather than any defect with the toy.

So let me get this clear. You are not supposed to fold the flap? hmmm... :p

  14. If I had the money, I'd buy one of these in a heart beat. I think these things look bad ASS. Alas. I'm poor.

    401042

Ask Novea, tell him your situation and I am sure he will give you a special price for this valk. He is not just a vendor but a fan himself so he will be glad to help you!

  15. Every true Macross/Robotech fan needs these for their valks. Place your order with Taka now! These are limited so get them while they last or you will regret it. Buy in bulk and save on shipping. I myself will be getting 15 sets and I only have 11 Valks. Like I said these are limited so get extras just in case!!

  17. Well after missing all the preorders for the stealth, on vacation here in Hawaii I found one today :D . There shipment had just come in..

Looks much better then is does in the pictures......... But damn Yamato!!!! Lets make the box a little smaller next time....... Now I have to carry this big ass box on the airplane with me  :p

    400556

As far as I know they will not let you put that on the plane. You have to consider the luggage of other people. Take it out of the box and just take the toy with you. Play with it on the plane :D

  18. I got my VF-0S last Friday from twinmoons and both pointy bits on the tailwings were hanging by a thread.  There was nothing I could do but break them off.  It took a few attempts but I superglued them back on.  No other problems except the joints seem a bit more loose than the 1/48's and the gunpod does not mount on the arms.  It even sags a bit in fighter mode.  However, it seems better engineered and it's my new favorite toy.  I love all the details and how the arms tuck up far into the belly.

I don't know if anyone else brought this up, but I noticed there were stickers for a two seat cockpit (two pairs of triangles).  I sure hope that means Yamato plans on making a VF-0D.

Wow you too? Bummer. Did you ever contact Tam about the problem? You should because Tam needs to talk to Yamato about these defective ones to prevent from future release. I ordered the VB monster from Tam and it came defective. The front piece of the head was totally missing! It took a while but Tam exchanged it for me. Had to pay extra shipping costs to return it and recieve a new one. :(
