  1. Full frame will not only make your live easier with lens purchases. The bigger sensor means that there's room for bigger pixels which means you'll have better quality pics. fixed!
  2. I was wondering about that too. I sent him a PM in october last year. Never got a reply though and he asn't been active on the boards since then.
  3. You have a weird taste in holiday locations. j/k Nice sharp pics! I really like one of the flower.
  4. a Hi-poly Gnerl would be great. I just got an idea for another project but I'll also need a hi-poly VF-1 for that.
  5. 1000 polys (give or take a couple hundred) should do for a fighter of this size. The Gnrels won't be close to the camera, but I like to keep my options open.
  6. The one I got from Chillyche is pretty low poly but it'll do for my current project. Just gotta figure out how to correctly apply a UVW unwrap modifier. I you could provide a medium poly textured version I'd be mighty grateful. BTW: That Glaug would be perfect for my current project to lead a squadron of Regults into battle. Pics from Mr March's M3 site. Here's a little preview of my current project which is far from finished.
  7. Got one! Thanks to Chillyche.
  8. Like the title says, I'd like to get my hands on a 3d model of the Gnerl fighter pod. Doesn't have to be high poly, 3ds file will do, but a Max file with textures would be great. I'm working on a new CG project with lots of Macross mecha. See my first project here. Thanks in advance! ::EDIT:: Reference pic from Mr March's M3
  9. You have to give it a thorough cleaning every time you've used it or all the remaining goo will dry up and it'll get stuck. Just yank it good 'n hard one time and it'll break free again. It can hurt a little though.
  10. Tell me about it! It took months for me to compile a decent, and 'affordable' tripod/ballhead set-up and it still cost more than €600. This Gitzo isn't even a carbon version, those start at €450 for the one I'd need for my equipment. I'm pretty much set for my racing photography with the 70-200 and the urban exploration stuff with the tripod for now. a fast ultra wide zoom is still on the wishlist, but it'll have to wait. I haven't bought any Macross toys for little over a year now because all my extra cash is going into the photography thing. I'm even thinking about selling some of the toys to pay for the ultra wide.
  11. Good choice on the bag MacrossMan! You don't want to be spending extra cash on a new bag every time you buy an extra accessory for your camera. Finally got my quick release clamp from RRS today so my tripod setup is complete. I got the various componants from different stores and saved over €300 making it possible for me to have a pro grade ballhead for a consumer grade price. Phone camera pic. Camera/flash/lens combo in pic weighs just over 3kg and is locked solid! ::EDIT:: Spelling.
  12. Great buy there anime52k8! The 70-200 mmf4 is supposedly the sharpest telezoom lens on the planet. I chose the f2.8 because I wanted the extra stops available when I needed them. The 2.8 is still sharp as hell and I doubt my non-pro eye will notice the difference in sharpness. An L lens is quite an investment but you'll forget all about the money when you import that perfect picture into Lightroom.
  13. This isn't the first time you asked this question. And my answer is the same as it was then.
  14. I've thought about it but I'd loose the 320 mm range I need for my race photography. My friend does the video's, I just take pictures. What video did you watch that was so gross & scary?
  15. I was seriously considering getting it, but with a possible 14-24 on the way, I'll be patient and probably get that. Seriously? I'll take it as wide as it comes (I'm talking lens ngle not,... you dirty bastards!) BTW. Here's a link to my Urban Exploration blog with pics. It's in Dutch but you should be able to navigate it. We've only visited three sites so far, at one of which we had to get out fast because of someone entering the building. Let me tell you, I almost pissed my pants when we heard the door opening.
  16. I asume you went full frame if you needed to replace the 10-22mm? How was the 10-22mm? Is it as great as the online reviews say it is?
  17. ? I thought I understood how aperture works, but wouldn't the aperture-blades have to be outside the lens for f/0.95 to be possible? You think $10.000 is a lot? Check this bad boy.
  18. I don't. I'd rather spend that kind of cash on a 24-70 or a 5D mkII body.
  19. I just spent a couple hundred on a tripod and ballhead, no way I can afford a 5D right now. I wish I could though. I was kind of hoping the 7D would be full frame but I guess I'll have to wait a little longer. The EF 16-35 is great but it doesn't match with the 24-70 very well which I plan on getting eventually. I was thinking the same thing. The 'old' 24-70 price should drop when stores get the new IS version in stock. 14-24, 24-70, 70-200 all with f2.8 would be the Holy Trinity of lenses AFAIC. What lens are you getting?
  20. My reason for choosing the Computrekker is because it alows me to put my camera in there with any lens mounted. In some conditions (beach) you don't want to have to change lenses to fit everything into the bag. Having enough space for two telezooms means I won't have to change lenses when I need to pack up. There's also room for any lenses I'll purchase in the future. BTW: Canon rumors says there might be a EF mount 14-24 mm f2.8 L lens coming next year. That's the best news this years IMO. I've been pondering what wide angle lens to get next. The EF-S 10-22 mm lens is great but it won't fit a full frame body I might get in a few years. The EF 17-40 mm f4 is great but it's not really wide enough for my needs on a crop sensor camera. a 14-24 would be perfect cause it'll be wide enough on a crop sensor camera and it work great with the 24-70 mm I plan on getting too. God, what a perfect line up 14-24 mm, 24-70 mm and the 70-200 mm I already own all with f2.8! Can't wait!!
  21. I started out with a Fastpack 200 and loved it untill I got the big 70-200 f2.8 lens. I want the abillity to bring other non-camera related stuff when I'm on a daytrip without having to use another bag. Which is why I got the Computrekker AW. It holds all my camera goodies (incl. a tripod) with room to spare for future lenses and I can bring a laptop, waterbottle, a book etc. It's big, but I won't have to shop for a new bag for years to come.
  22. Wiki on focal lenght with comparison shots. And another. Scroll down past all the math stuff to see some more comparison shots. You'll still need to take crop factor into account with any focal lenght number you see. For Nikon that's x1.5, for Canon it's x1.6. And here's my to cents on purchasing a lens. I see a lot of people buying a DSLR thinking they'll automatically get better pics and be disapointed when their holiday/family snapshots look just like the ones they took with their old point 'n shoot camera. There are three reasons for that; They only used the program modes. Forget about the 'landscape, portrait, sports program modes on your camera. Experiment with the aperture and timer priority mode and especially the manual mode. Only then will you use the full potential of a DSLR camera and get those shots that make people want a camera just like that. They got a slow cheap kitlens. Save up and invest in a good lens. Glass is more important then your camera's body because in a couple of years you'll want to get a newer body, but you'll be using your lenses a lot longer. In photography more money means better equipment means better pics. (You'll also need skill and creativity! ) a cheap slow lens will not get you that blurred background (it's called bokeh, and the 'creamier' the better) you want when making a portrait of your kid and also it won't be as sharp as a good lens. They didn't invest in a stand-alone flash meaning every family pic has those awfull hard shadows on the walls behind the subject and red eyes. Like I said, just my two cents and that's all I could spare cause I'm saving up for an extremely wide angle 10-22 mm lens. (which, with Canon's x1.6 crop factor means it's actually a 16-35 mm)
  23. My tripod arrived last week and I've ordered a, hold on,...wait for it,... Really Right Stuff BH-40 ballhead with quick-release clamp. I noticed a local (Dutch) website has them on sale but it's really weird 'cause I ordered a separate ballhead and clamp and got 'em cheaper than the same pieces as a set. The ballhead was $238 and the clamp was $184 making my set $422. The store sold them as a set for $520. I'm gonna have to wait a few weeks because they have them on backorder, but I called them and confirmed the order for $422 (they sent me a pdf invoice). That's even cheaper than ordering from the RRS website shipped ($50) and taxed (%20 + handling fee) <--me being happy
