  1. I liked the homages, but I wish they would start making a statement with their music. Music has always been a central theme in all the Macross series, and using the same song from SDF Macross to parallel with the storyline is a bit much, thats my only complaint. I would rather have them put a statement on their own music and have those songs parallel the story. One thing I absolutely loved about SDF Macross, was the way each song subtly set the mood for the situation/story at the time. The "kyun kyun" song in Mac+ was a small homage, but I felt MacF used it here as a central theme for the episode, which makes it much more than a nod to the original, but a lack of originality imo. Other than that, I LOVE this series so far, and I can't wait to see how the plot unfolds!
  2. I agree with JBO, the original macross is awsome. Like you, I fell in love with robotech first. But after watching the original Macross, I'd say it pretty much blows robotech out of the water. The only thing thats different are the voices and the music. Especially Minmay, she was such an important and pivotal figure in the anime. But in Robotech she comes off soo annoying. and the music is really good. With different voice actors, music, and slight differences in the wording, Macross really comes off a lot more powerfully then Robotech ever did. I would definitely check out the original macross.
  3. Wow, i thought i would be the youngest. My friends and I that are into macross are 18, grew up on Robotech first =). We're pretty much the last generation. Soon Macross will be an underground cult thing. Or it kinda is already...
  4. Hi, I was just wondering if this is open to anyone whose in the area, because it seems like only the older members are talking in this thread, so i was wondering if it was like a macross elite circle kinda gathering. heh. Because Im in San Diego and can make the drive to irvine no sweat.
  5. I dont know why, but i got kind of mad by this. I think the music and song and dance was VERY important to the themes of macross. If you look at the the symbolism behind the anime. The music and the love triangle was clearly repesentative of "love" and the zentraedi and fighting were represented as the theme "war". And altogether Macross whole theme was "love AND war" Not just the fighting as Robotech would have liked. Why would you even be asking the SINGER that? Pfft sorry im done ranting.
  6. I felt the music from robotech doesnt even compare to Macross. All of Minmay's/Mari's songs are focused on love which sets a much different tone then the robotech songs. First of all their theme song sounded like a war march, it seemed to glorify the fighting much more than the actual love story. And her songs really didnt carry much weight except for the "we will win" song which further emphasizes the theme of war more than love. I thought only one song was decent. Which was the one that goes " its you that i cant leave behind" yeah that actually went pretty parrallel with "Love drifts away" by setting a sad tune. Listening to both soundtracks especially the kareoke versions on disc two. I realized the instrumentals for the macross songs are much better as well. Anyway sorry for the rant. Back on topic, im really excited to see Mari Reprising her role. This dub release might turn out well afterall.
  7. You could buy the Harmony Gold reissue of animeigo-s dvd set. For around 150 including shipping. Go to http://www.robotech.com/store/viewproduct.php?id=93. Its exactly the same dvd's of the animeigo set which is currently the best restoration of the anime. The only thing thats different is the box that contains the dvds. This is cheaper than buying the out of production original dvd set. And yes it'll play on u.s dvd players. I dont know if im allowed to advertise the robotech website on here. So i apologize if ive broken any forum rules. I cant seem to find a page that lists the forum rules so yeah. Sorry! Oh and dont buy from that site, Or any dvd sets that seem too low.I checked it out fro you. Their chinese bootleg and the subtitles are horrible. The only one worth getting are the ones by animeigo. Hope that was helpful. Bye!
  8. So it seems a point of opinion of whose to blame, which is retailers or parents. I think its both. And i think you guys thoroughly discussed that. What i did not agree with at ALL was Hikuro's statment about being the KID'S fault? If you look into child psychology it clearly shows that children dont have rational thinking until much later. Thats why you always hear kids argueing with the most farfetched rationing. Or how parents say " Do as I say, not as I do" thats a load of BS. Kids emulate YOU the parents and everything else they see. To them, Reality and fantasy is one and the same thing. Anyway about retailers and parents. I think its a step up to regulating the use of mature games. Sure theres loop holes, but when is any law air tight? If it will HELP, then im all for it. And i agree with everyone else. Parents SHOULD watch their kids. But lets face it. Some parents dont DESERVE to be parents, and just treat their kids like crap. And some parents work hard hours just to make ends meet, that they dont have time to watch their kids. Its a long chain of responsibility that could be passed from parents , to uncle/aunts/ to siblings, and you seriously cant make any laws forcing parents, or anyone else down the ladder to watch their kids more with so much conjecture and circumstances. You have to understand the government doesnt work all that efficiently, and cant always come out with an ideal solution. But just take it as it is. A step in the right direction. The law punishing retailers is a GOOD step up. thats my 2 cents.
  9. Thanks alot everyone =D. Ill be sure looking into each suggestion and seeing which is the best i should go with. THANKS!
  10. Hi, im probably one of the younger generation of macross fans, so i find the macross products EXTREMELY expenisve. I dont bolster a REALLY COOL macross collection jsut the ugly bandai vf-1a and a 1/48 vf-1a, but even if its not the greatest collection i want to put them up proudly =). Im just not willing to spend 40-50 bucks on the yamato display stand. Are there any cheaper no name brands that could do the same exact thing. Or a cheap alternative to making one? thanks.
  11. Short version: HG licensed Macross from Tatsunoko, who recieved international distribution rights from Big West as partial payment for their help in the production of the original TV series. HG claims this license gives them exclusive rights to all Macross products ever, and throws cease&desist letters and/or lawsuits at anyone that dares import a product without their authorization. Excepting Macross 2 and MacPlus, because these were imported before they claimed to have exclusive rights to the entire franchise. And DYRL, which had something like 3 companies do US releases back in the day, and lacks a DVD release because no one's sure who, if anyone, actually still has a license. Big West thinks otherwise, and has yanked one license(for a US release of the Macross 7 Trash manga) because they agreed to pay HG royalties. 325695[/snapback] Thanks JBO. You're awsome. I remember reading that animeigo's liscense ran out and thats when HG picked up the overstocks to the 9 dvd set. (The only reason i know this is cuz i scoured the internet for the dvd set that made me a hardcore macross fan =)) So is it ever possible for HG's liscense to run out? Id really love to see Macross more easily viewed instead of an underground cult kinda anime. Im afraid my generation of late teens are the last generation of macross fans. LIVE ON MACROSS!
  12. yeah me 2, i wanna see! Ive been going to comic con and never see ANYTHING with macross. GRRR. Im looking at other con pics and realize im young compared to some of you. Only 17! i think older teens are the last generation of macross. Spread the love. Oh and those pics would be nice. Anime Expo is only a 2 hour drive i think. and might just go to both. thanks bye.
  13. Man... i just looked through all these wallpapers... and i am amazed. I want to commend you guys for making the macross fanbase so wonderful. I never see this much macross wallpapers in one place. Its good to know Macross is still alive and kicking. And its YOU guys that make keep it alive so thank you. I didnt expect such an awsome fanbase of macross because im a newcomer in macross but i grew up on robotech all my life and jsut recently watched macross and LOVED IT way more. Sorry for my long winded speech, but Im im jsut so excited to see all these PIMP wallpapers. Im definitely using these. THANK YOU and keep up the good work
  14. I dont have the endurance nor the will too read through all these pages on the topic. Haha. I am VERY interested in this topic. Im a newcomer in the series of Macross. But i LOVE it way more than the robotech series. So im really eager to know more about the Robotech and HG debates. Could somone pm me or summarize the issues here. Thanks.
  15. yeah totally. Its ridiculous. Im 18 and some people dont know anything about anime. Anime is for ALL ages. And macross is definitely on the more older teens and on spectrum. Pfft. Dont listen to them i say.
