2. The only real complaint is this... Ms. Rial, (pause for breath)

IT'S PRONOUNCED MAH-CROSS, DAMMIT, NOT MUH-CROSS!!! Thank you.

    354245

Yeah. What's up with the deliberate Lacrosse mispronounciation of Macross?

    Here's something more suspicious.

RT's Shadow Chronicles is being voice-directed by Richard Epcar (Bateu(gits-sac), Guld(macross-plus)) and Yuri Lowenthal (Leo in Scrapped Princess) are headlining it. These two names alone indicates that Shadow Chronicles is gonna have at least an A-class english-dubbing.

The new Macross english-dubs is going F-class. As in f*cked-up.

  3. This all just begs the question... if everything sounds like an even cheesier Robotech, why didn't they just get the original RT voice actors in the first place?

    -Al

    352099

Most likely reason is that HG wanted it cheap so they opted to have ADV do the dubbing in-house, rather than HG paying the going rate of the Animaze/BangZoom (the RT voice-actors) stable.

  4. I'm not sure I particularly like Mari's accent for Minmay in an english dub.  I'm probably the only one here that thinks Mari's accent is going to be a weak point of this dub as much as she adds to its legitimacy... the way she sounds makes the chemistry between her and Hikaru a little hard to believe, and the directing probably won't be good enough to inject the subtleties now required.  And for what it's worth, she sounds nothing like a Chinese girl with a Chinese accent, not one I've ever heard.  She sounds like a Japanese girl who's pretending to be Chinese but somehow speaks with a Japanese accent, which is pretty much what's going on.  At least the her singing'll be a marked improvement over West's.

Actually, the way I heard it was Mari's a japanese-girl trying to speak english with a chinese-accent.

Mari, we <3 you already and we <3 you even more with the unintentional funny you did in the english-dubs.

  5. Just an fyi to my fellow MW-members.

Ok, so Geoduck of AnimeOnDVD-forum provided some dub-clips of the english-Macross and I listened to it.

Here was my response to the AOD-thread that was featuring the new english-dubs of Macross :

    http://forums.animeondvd.com/showthreaded....w=&sb=5&o=&vc=1

uhmm, call me extremely underwhelmed by those dub-clips.

    It seems that:

[*] Vic's too eager and too angsty. He sounded more like a better Amuro Ray than a Hikaru Ichijou.

[*] Brett's too gruff and policeman/detective-like to be a Roy Focker.

[*] Mari's kinda kewl since her english-Minmay now sounds like an authentic Chinese-girl with the accent, something that was unintentionally lost in the original japanese-dubs.

Honestly, as much as I dislike the old Robotech-dubs, these clips of the new Macross english-dubs are not much of any improvement.

Click the link above to get and listen to the ADV dub-clips yourself. I don't think Geoduck's gonna keep it up for long.

  6. Improved subtitles?  WTH?  The Animeigo translation was one of the best subtitling productions of any anime I've ever seen.  Good luck trying to one-up them!

    346774

ADV's "improved subtitles" means they'll prolly now put in the :

    Kyun! Kyun!

    instead of teh funnay

    Woosh! Woosh!

(or whatever the heck it was) from the Animeigo-subs.:p

  7. hmmm.

    1. the walking minmay-doll.

    2. the bandai 1/55 Strike VF-1S

    3. a Metal Siren (macross-II)

    4. a Gigamesh (macross-II)

    5. the CM series-1.

    B))

obtw, your current nickname-handle is rather offensive to some of us here in this particular macross-board. just so you're aware of that.

  8. I would want a Hikaru in Blue-uniform and Minmay with the red plaid/tartan beret and skirt, as both seen at the pre-climax of DYRL.

Also a short-haired Ishtar, Guld in uniform and Myung figures.

    B))

  9. I don't really trust ADV when it comes to english-dubbing.

The few good dubs ADV have had (i.e. Dai Guard/Golden Boy) are few and far between. Some have already been laid off (Dai Guard's vocal-studio Monster Island is gone). So we're left with the vocals from ISM: the same casting-people who did the infamous EVA english-dubs. Don't know about you, but between EVA and Robotech dubs, I rather listen to Robotech's english-dubs.

Fwiw, the only good english-talent at ADV, imho, is Monica Rial. I like Hillary Haag, also, but she's not as good a vocal-talent as Monica Rial.

I fully doubt ADV will contract Animaze (the people who originally did the english-dubs of Macross-Saga (pre-Animaze name), Macross-Plus, Cowboy Bebop and now Gits-SAC/2nd-Gig).

Also, I will have to deviate from the collective here regarding the old robotech-vocals (macross-saga). They were fine enough back then. The problem was the directing and the script they were using. Yes, even Tony's Hikaru and Reba's Minmae could've turned out better if Macek didn't alter enough of the Macross-dialogues and directed the show that made Macross-Saga more broadcast-"friendly" but yet sound so very corny like we all know about Robotech.

  10. Topher as Venom... O_o.  I keep wondering if Topher would have made a better Parker than even McGuire.  At least he might have made a better Spiderman, with his dry, sarcastic wisecracks.  But Venom?!

I wish they'd have saved Venom for a fourth movie, just so we can see more of black Spidey, and even get used to the idea, with the movie ending with him in his new "costume".

    -Al

    332135

You never know, man. Maybe Topher-Venom's part is just establishing a Venom-intro/origin and we have to wait to get to see the full-on Venom-vs-Spidey in Spidey-4 and Spidey-5.

Complete with Carnage in Spidey-5. :ph34r:B))

  11. Check out this new Gundam arcade game by namco . It has a 180 degree panoramic screen and is controled by 2 hand levers and 2 foot pedals. There are some more reviews In english to be found on the internet, but this page had the most pictures.

    328253

    Judiciously AWESOME!!!

These Gundam-PODs reminds me alot of the old BattleTech-pods at the old Virtual World Centers, except completely updated with full 180-degrees view.

  12. Hey, it's been a while since I've watched any anime and I was hoping for some suggestions. I normally prefer serious anime, but in truth as long as it has fun stories and good characters I really don't care about the genre or tone of the show.

    316734

In addition to my School Rumble post, I highly-recommend getting

    Honey and Clover

Definitely serious-type anime, but really funny and with excellent characters..

    Out on R2-dvd and fansubs.

  13. Seriously....you kids need to learn how to watch long series. I find this to be a very bad trend in viewers these days. Thanks to 20-some episode seasons and all that stuff, you are use to everything happening at once. I've watched a lot of long series (most of them being romatic comedies) and if you think M7 is bad, watch Maison Ikoku. It's virtually 70 episodes of the same thing happening every episode. I find lots of series to be too short these days and too spread out. M7 goes at a good pace. Sure it has low spots but what long series doesn't. Maybe I'm more patient and older. But even when I did watch it all those years ago, I never found it going too slow.

    *sigh*

    MI == excellent.

    M7 == crap.

I suggest that you use another anime-title that has long episode-count instead of sullying MI's reputation.

We're releasing VOTOMS in a single, massive boxset.  Is it remastered?  It is dub and/or sub?  We're still working everything with the release out and a number of meetings need to be had.  While I mentioned I was pushing to get the set released inside a 1/6 scale Scopedog whose head opens up to store the DVDs, I can pretty safely tell you that's not gonna happen.  (That's right, it'll be 1/8 scale.)

Just an fyi to other VOTOMS-fans here.
