The thing is…Is it an official Takatoku product? Are there more Takatoku toys besides Macross that have the Takatoku logo and were made in Taiwan? We all know there are lots of taiwanese toys made from the Takatoku molds, but those have the logo removed and do not have japanese writing. That Takatoku made in Taiwan box is the missing link.

On a more helpful note, note the "MADE IN TAIWAN" on the box cover.

  2. So I tried playing it on my PS3 and got the same error as you. Even tried it on my Series X and PC and none of those could play it either. I guess it's an authoring error.

I just think it's hilarious that this is the first time anyone's ever mentioned this. I guess we were all understandably too focused on DYRL πŸ˜†

  3. I see Calibre Wings is ripping off another IP, this time it's Hasegawa.

Calibre got a Cease and Desist from Big West, so I’m not surprised.Β

They did? Everyone here who wanted Shin's F-14 from M0 got one. A couple of months later, Noel (the owner of Calibre Wings) posted a YouTube update where he practically laughed at Big West.

There was no mention of 'Derivative' in the agreements? I thought in one of the court summaries I saw that, but could be very wrong.

    (e.g. old max, vf-1ex, queadluun-rhea, etc?)

The "derivative" wording came from Article 5 of Harmony Gold's agreement with Tatsunoko Production. While the word is never defined in the agreement, it's used in the context of creating adaptions of The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, not sequels and such.

    Quote

The Licensor [Tatsunoko Production], as the exclusive author and owner of all worldwide copyrights, moral rights and rights of publication in and to the underlying series, grants to the Licensee [Harmony Gold] exploitation of the copyrights in accordance with the provisions in this Agreement whereby the Licensee is entitled to . . . adapt and prepare derivative works based on . . . the underlying series . . . . (emphasis added)

So yeah, that's where it all came from πŸ˜€

I could be remembering wrong but from my recollection, Beagle's ride armors didn't sell because the world was caught in an historic recession. Personally, I think if somebody put out a high quality classic ride armor today, it'd sell just fine. Β

You're absolutely right, the Great Recession was a factor in Beagle's demise. There's probably a dozen other legitimate factors that played a role in Beagle's collapse.

But toy companies probably don't care about that. All they saw was a company released the most accurate toy representation of the vintage Ride Armor ever, and they died right afterwards. They're not going to risk their money on that.

  6. Tatsunoko Production holds the copyright designs to Genesis Breaker, not Sentinel. If anyone's trying to quietly infringe on Tatsunoko's designs, working with Tatsunoko's longtime partner, Harmony Gold, is the wrong way to go about it.

More than likely, the reason MoShow Toys redesiged the Ride Armors is that they've done their homework. The last time someone (Beagle) masterfully turned Ride Armors into toys, they flopped so hard that they killed Beagle. The lesson learned is that you either make cheap Ride Armor toys or you update them into premium toys, like Sentinel did.

  7. Thanks, but that's not quite what I was looking for. And thankfully so, because someone (from here?) bought it before I would've had the chance to.

If anyone happens to see one publicly for sale, please DM me the site. We Macross fans are pretty ruthless πŸ˜†

  8. I'm looking for this specific bootleg Valkyrie. If there were other variations besides the VF-1A, I'm open to those too, thanks!

EDIT: It doesn't have to be sealed on the card, loose is fine too.

  9. It looks like the mask is wide because it's accommodating Dana's physical face. If they made the mask accurate to the line art, Dana would end up with a really narrow face. IMO, that would've been the worse option, since one of Dana's signature appearences is her circular face. The ideal option would've been to include additional heads: one fully masked, one partially masked, and no mask at all. But I guess KC really wanted a mask gimmick, plus it's cheaper too.

Speaking of gimmicks, the cloth gimmick just looks bad. It's a shame because KC really nailed Dana's face and armor.

If we are going to take the reference, it reminds a little of these old concepts made by Yune, a few years agoimages(5).jpeg.ed93ad80c90974f95ab036c05f1bb3a3.jpegimages(6).jpeg.58acbc6e1cde503cf52ec43f4efe2a1f.jpeg

Tommy Yune's designs are 20 years old, but they're still much better than the new one. Yune had a bulky fighter transform into a bulky battloid.

Especially now that FA has passed.

Doubtful Frank Agrama's passing changes anything.
