  1. No sir, we were talking DYRL here. Hikaru chose Misa because she was the last woman on Earth. Even then it took a few months. Zing! If he likes that sort of boring life and being bossed around, then yeah, choice is clear (just joking folks, it's a comedy thread. When it comes to Mikimoto characters, they are all gorgeous) ------ 4.jpg Bawahahaha! At least wait till the second date dude! Even Roy would have smacked you in the back of the head for that move.
  2. As a young child (maybe 6-8 or so) I caught a few episodes of Robotech on TV original airings. Saw maybe 2 episodes. Hated it. Minmei's voice annoyed the hell out of me. Went back to watching Battle of the Planets. (Science Bird Ninja team Gachaman) Played Battletech table top, sorta recognized some of the mech designs, and loved them, hated the poorly designed ones (that weren't Macross designs). Pretty damn obvious something was up with that. Did a bit of asking around when all my fave mechs disappeared, and found out about Macross while looking into the Harmony Gold harassment of Battletech. But no real internet or anime clubs I knew of back then. Got the whole story on HG. Made a mental note wishing I could see it in the original form, had no interest in seeing a version with two other shows tacked on and characters changed, especially from the "creative" mind of the guy that ruined my game. Got into anime, got in a few clubs back in the days of blank VHS tape swapping. Got to see subbed DYRL. Still my favorite movie. Minmay. That scene ending Ai Obuete, where Minmay stares out from the hologram with Mikimoto liquid eyes in Boddol Zer's control room, you could almost misintreptet her look of singing passion as a deadly glare locking eyes with BZ... then Hikaru charges in, thrust deccel burst right in BZ's face, aims, pauses just for a moment briefly considering this killing - decides silently in that second... no mercy, and proceeds to make total hamburger out of Boddol Zer's face as Minmay looks on in the background, but not seeing the bloodbath head spatter as it's a one way projection. THAT. Best thing ever. Tried to get SDFM TV. Found out the equivalent scene had Minmay in a POLKA DOT GREEN DRESS. Outrage. Wondered if I could go back to the original character designs. Stopped trying find the episodes. Saw Macross 2 dubbed in a old classic historical theater, was pretty impressed at the time.... but that was mainly the cool factor of seeing actual Anime in a swank classy balcony theater. But didn't like that it was dubbed. Gossip news reporter? Really? Could barely sit though Wendy Rider. But still it was Mikimoto, so it was gorgeous. (and Ishtar!) Saw most of Mac 7 at anime club meetings, was decent, still loved the Mikimoto char designs; but didn't quite have that old charm of DYRL. It didn't really get me going for Macross again. Couldn't take it seriously, so I didn't go out of my way to see it all. Saw Plus, didn't have that epic feel, decent show though. I couldn't bring myself to care about any of the characters (Angry dude, other angry dude, OL that gave up). Yoko Kanno's music is great though. (no offense Plus fans! It's cool that you like it, don't hate mail me) Got to meet Mari Iijima, Mikimoto, and Kawamori over the course of some rabid Anime con attendance years. (DYRL was still my #1 of damn near any movie, so believe me, I appreciated the privilege; Mikimoto and Kawamori were some of my ultimate faves even if I wasn't a super Macross fan at the time) Tried to watch old SDFM. At the time it was difficult to get anime, so I had a hard time justifying the trouble of obtaining episodes with animation like the M/M knife fight when I just didn't have that old love of all Macross. Ashamed now, but I again put off seeing it. Watched Macross Zero soon after it came out. Impressive CG, pretty, had some love and emotion to the story, but kinda weird. Really liked it, but not super pumped about it. Watched Macross Frontier. THIS is what I have been waiting for. This had the love, the combat, the emotion, the message of peace without being stupid or preachy, seriousness, epicness, and the music. All the spirit of the original IMHO. Episodes 24+25 = DYRL end. I do not state that lightly. Wife had to tell me to take it easy watching Frontier scenes and songs over and over again, even though she loved Frontier too. (And cosplays Ranka now  ) Went back and watched everything twice over the last few years (well, not all of 7 twice yet). Honestly, I owe it to Frontier for making me love all the old stuff to an actual Macross fan extent instead of just a "I kinda like this old important influential anime as an anime fan".
  3. Question: Did you grow up watching Robotech? I think someone needs to conduct a poll correlating first exposure to Macross via Robotech and Minmay hate. I really think it's all about first impressions. Minmei did not make a good one.
  4. Personally I was wondering about gloss vs semi-gloss vs matte. Non gloss paint has a microscopic texture that messes with decals? And metallic paint does not look good over matte, so if you want it to be matte, paint a high gloss, paint the metallic, then clear coat matte over it?
  5. And what exactly the songstress powers do please. I'm having a really difficult time translating those.... and noticing what is affected on foes while under fire. --- Now I feel bad. I had an old version of the guide up, my apologies.
  6. Yeah that's a ballsy move. I really want to know if they fixed the Strike pack size or not. Or is it too late to change it? Who knows, we aren't allowed to see what we are buying ¬_¬ I placed an order for an out of stock Hasagawa Battleoid VF1S w/ strike pack just yesterday. I'll cancel it and get this if it's good.
  7. I doubt it's anywhere near as good as shapeway, but as TundraYeti said, a cheap 3d printer would probably be great for resin molds. Would they go for us? Yeah I think so. It's not a drawing, they choose who gets it. As far as applications they would see: Seeing what talented people can already do vs some vague idea someone else has that is unrealistic. But someone would have to get the MW website owners on board with this and assure them there wouldn't be any drama or flak about a possible "MW community owned" 3d printer. I haven't been around long enough to have that kind of contacts or clout. I just think it would be great if some of the skilled scratch modelers on MW had 3d printer access; even if it was just getting parts from another member that had the printer at cost + shipping. That would beat the heck out of shapeways for some projects. We would all get to see even more incredible builds. I think we should put together a collection of links for the best scratch builds for the "what makes our group stand out" application, get the website owner's ok, and submit an entry, and worry about who physically gets it later - as long as it's someone willing to run it and just charge expenses, that's still great for everyone. We got about 20 days left. Sorry for the derail Kurisama, keep up the work on the incredible and underrepresented Meltran gear!
  8. What? You want me to work while I am at work instead of posting or something? Obcessed? Proud of it. Macross World, where you may run into obcessed Macross Fans. Yep, that's not cool at all. But I do reserve the right to call Macross fans (all of em!) people with good taste. And while I am not a huge fan of 7, I do stand up for it when people totally trash it. I just might not reccomend it to new fans as something to watch right away, and will pit it against the other shows. Maybe watching all these love triangles makes us wanna fight about what we love? I think Basara more loves and desires peace for all sentient beings, kinda like a rock&roll Bhudda. That's cool with me.
  9. I keep seeing this abomination, but what is the story behind it?
  10. Thank you for writing this! Yes please! I'm completely astounded by the people here that know exactly when and what acrylics, enamels, and ever self dyed furniture polish go over what others, and what can and cannot mix with what for the best effect.
  11. Yep. Responding to your opinion with my opinion plus reasons for it, as you have now done. We all have things we like more in the Macross universe. That's cool, and it's good to discuss the reasons for it. I agree that Klan's design is a bit much, but at least she is portrayed as a competent female character and not just there for panty shots. As for myself, and the women I have shown Mac F to have more of a problem with the episode consisting of people chasing Sheryl's worn panties around, and even that is a "Yeah yeah fanservice episode, whatever". So when you show people Macross 7 with concerns about fanservice, do you stop each episode before the 2nd ending starts, skip episode 41 and all of Dynamite? Anyway, if someone is so straight laced as to actually have a problem with Macross Frontier level fanservice I would show them Legend of Galactic Heroes if I wanted to demonstrate serious anime. I would not choose a show with a 14 year old wearing a near thong one piece swimsuit with shoulder pads as everyday wear as a more acceptable alternative for people with delicate sensibilities. But more likely I would just not invite extremist puritans over to watch stuff in the first place. Honestly the entire mild fanservice concern thing just doesn't cross my mind and isn't an issue for me, so I can't identify. Heck my wife asks me to watch "Rosario + Vampire" with her as her idea, and she watched the entire series. Wasn't my thing. My wife loves Frontier, and is now a new Macross fan because of it. I've shown Frontier to female friends, wasn't a big deal. Cannot comprehend. Not dealing with this one. The Beauty of retreat! I must have missed the part where Basara expresses interest or pursues Mylene romantically. Yes he hates Gamlin. Basara is protective of Mylene. But I'm missing the part where he is actually even slightly interested in her. And I'm not a Basara hater here. I enjoyed Macross 7, it has it's problems, just not my favorite. In closing, like what you like and enjoy your fandom people.
  12. So Macross 7 is the better sequel because of the setting and creativity, as long as you don't actually watch it and see what they did with it...? Maybe I'm not getting what is being said here. Sorry for any misinterpretation. Sure, ignoring the poor mechanical design implemntation, bad combat coreography, less than serious characters, and laughable villians Macross 7 is a better sqeuel to SDFM than Frontier.... Wat? But you can't ignore or cut out those things, so Frontier is the best series sequel and the only series that comes close to living up to SDFM's legacy. Lets look at the basics of what makes Macross, Macross: (and make it loved by all smart attractive people with good taste, no matter if they are into artsy or action) Tragedy? Frontier: Yes 7: No. Unless you count minor characters introduced for the purpose of dying(um, no!), and one of those was completely goofy and 100% intentional while grinning on his part. Love triangle? Frontier: Yes 7: Basara is not remotely interested in a physical relationship with any main character. Does he care? Yes. Love tension/romantic moments? Not in the slightest. Bad ass combat? Frontier: YES! 7: No. The quality was not there. SDFM has it's stinker badly animated episodes or fight scenes sure. But they were not the norm. Great Music? Frontier: Yes 7: Yes. At times reused to a noticeable degree, but I'm not arguing this one. Bomba. Love/Peace/Culture/Acceptance of "other" overcoming War/Senseless violence/Fear of "other" Frontier: yesss... well, they could have done a bit more I think, but it was there. 7: Yes. Actually giving it to 7 on this one. Basara is consistent on this. But to contrast the want for peace, and make it serious, you need the loss of war. There was LOSS in SDFM. Spirita draining beams just didn't have a sense of loss or horror of violence. But the most important thing: People that have never seen any Macross can start watching Frontier and friggin love it and become Macross fans. It can stand alone, but also tastefully references all that has come before while not duplicating exactly.
  13. This is now 40% off for the Steam spring sale... $12 If you don't mind off-brand transforming mechs with super packs.
  14. Amazing build. My Alto armored VF-25 just came in at HLJ... I doubt I will be satisfied just snapping it together plain after seeing this! They don't allow clowns at the Itano Circus son.
  15. I doubt that one would be much good for anything other than resin mold forms, but still.... At least the people around here would actually put it to immidiate good use unlike alot of groups I can imagine with no modeling skills at all.
  16. Speaking of, these people are giving one away to a co-op. https://www.lulzbot.com/?q=news/printer-giveaway (Yeah it's a real printer company, even if it sounds like a troll site.) If they are giving these away so people make cool stuff to advertise their 3d printer, the folks around here would give the printer makers something to brag about.
  17. I don't have any screen shots, but the arms seem to be on the outside of the engine/legs while in fighter mode instead of the normal on the inside. The weapon block in between the engines, traditionally where the arms would be. Sadly, I can't help with you screenshots or vids from my PS3, it requires equipment I don't have. Here is a promotional vid with ALOT of YF-30 footage. Try and ignore the overly enthusiastic cooing from the paid "reviewers". This game makes the average person coo without being paid for it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7xeS_cvL2s
  18. On the OP post VF-1, when you look at just his forehead, and where the nearest cockpit glass is, it's way too close on the VF-1. He would be more reclined. Looks quite reclined here.
  19. Wow, that little guy should recline and relax a little bit. Looks tense with that perfectly straight back. Also, landing gear could be telescoping and much thinner without as many struts when you put some alien alloys into the equation.
  20. Too close to home for me! I do understand you Doctor. Maybe not the crazy outfit though. I don't understand that. Maybe not the funniest moment in Macross, but it always makes me grin: Exsedol, from your lower perspective for viewing the hologram.... that's not the culture in your genes being awakened, that's something else being awakened.
  21. Not sure if arrows list, or greater than symbols. Either a basically wordless (yet wonderful) music video collection with no plot is the best Macross ever, Or Macross 7 is rated higher than DYRL and you are the first person I have met that thinks Zero is the best. Either way, more power to ya.
  22. The Form 1 Prosumer 3D printer ultraviolet laser SLA from the earlier link? The site lists liquid resin at $149 a litre. I have no idea if that is good or bad or if there would be another off the shelf product that somebody could use instead. Something to keep an eye on tho.
  23. Watermarks are fine, but make them too blatant, and it just promps people to edit them out, repost it, then some 3rd person grabs it and claims it. First you should start with actually putting your name in the author info on the JPG file. Use TinEye.com every once in awhile on your own stuff if you are paranoid. It's great for finding people posting your art. But don't let scumbags stop you from posting art. Art should be seen, not stored.
  24. Frontier then maybe 7. Trust me. The only real reference to 7 in Frontier is smaller earlier dome colony ships, Sheryl saying "Listen to my song", and Ozma listening to "Classic Rock" from Firebomber in like 1-2 scenes.
  25. Nomos is a Greek demi-god.... but "Sangetaru" has me stumped.
