  1. These were v1. I like them a lot. Any feedback? V2 could have some updates.
  2. And the crew are ready. Aren't they cute. I'm really happy with how Global came out. https://www.patreon.com/arbitscalemodels
  3. V1 compared to V2. Whenever I go back to a figure, I end up redoing almost everything. Although I already printed V1 and he came out pretty nice, V2 should be much better. V1 was one of my first figures, I used a sculpting method for the jacket with a very dense clay sphere to pull and tug and shape. And his face is the only face I have ever actually sculpted. For the V2 jacket I used a completely opposite approach, with a very simple mesh (the large simple polygons shown below), which allows me to control the shaping and symmetry much better. Then I add density with subdivision once the overall shape is formed. You can see how I model the creases and pockets right on the jacket once it is done, and add clothing details separately with a shrinkwrap. This method works easily for figures since they are organic and don't have sharp edges. It wouldn't work as easily for hard surface modeling, unless you know how to keep the overall form and sharp edges while smoothing out the shape (which is why you see some mech models look Low Poly, unless the modeler really knows what he is doing. Which I don't yet).
  4. Regarding LEDs burning out: 1. If they are parallel wired, you don't have a big worry because one burning out will not effect the rest. In serial wiring, if one goes out and they all go out. 2. I would worry about the 3v source going to those LEDs. Most LEDs cannot handle 3v for very long. Some white LEDs are rated for 3-3.2 forward voltage, but best practice is that each LED needs at least a 50 Ohm resistor for long-term safety. So unless these LEDS are special and are rated above 3V, I would not trust them. 3. I definitely would not trust the white battery pack, so make sure you have access to switch it out.
  5. I could help you with your power plan. What do you have in mind? An On/Off switch for the entire lighting, or something more controlled with an arduino? Either can be fairly simple. Question 1: Do you plan to solder?
  6. Dude, you're like an old friend. Anything you need, just let me know.
  7. Im too much of a romantic for that lol.
  8. True, but this brings up a question, in that pose, what handles are they gripping exactly? The handles are way out on the side!!! Yes, but now that I look at it, For the "All Go" signal, her thumb should be more downward, shouldn't it? Or is it fine as is? @Bolt I don't sell prints. You could go to a print shop, or better yet, find a friend to print you one for free. PM me if you don't know anyone, I'm glad to help the old-timers on the Workbench.
  9. I have been making a bunch of 3D figures, as you know, and didn't know what to do with them, so this is what I came up with. I don't sell any figures. All my figures are free. There are many reasons for this, but primarily it's just a hobby, and I have a lot of fun of doing it and sharing it with others. I would rather 100 people have my figures for free, than selling 2 or 3 pieces online. The big payoff is to see people use my figures in their projects. So, rather than hording my figures or monetizing them, I release each "main" figure for free, and give "variant" figure poses to my supporters on Patreon. I also made my Patreon as cheap as possible at 2 dollars, so anyone can get whatever they need. It's just for fun to chat with like-minded fans and get their encouragement.
  10. You guys can chime in here. It's not scientific 🤣
  11. Just for fun, I am taking votes for which Milia pilot I should release for free. Most votes wins.
  12. Misa Mars Base version! Now up. It is so much fun working on rare characters. I'm quite proud of these recent designs, because at this stage I am doing most of the modeling from scratch (like clothing, accessories, helmets). I still use base models (for bodies, heads, and hands), but often only for proportions to build clothing around. https://www.patreon.com/arbitscalemodels
  13. Absolutely gorgeous in every aspect. Thanks for sharing. More!
  14. Nice to see so much Macross on your workbench! I'm jealous...
  15. @sketchley Yes! That's an amazing resource. Thanks for your work.
  16. Thanks for narrowing down the selection. You gave me a good idea to use the Rabbit pilots, I had not thought of them as deck crew. And I have Misa's SDF space suit ready as well. I did study Sketchly's page in depth when you sent it to me. My thoughts: 1) The SDF deck crew space suit looks like a rush job by the designers. I've studied it a lot, and I just can't figure out what to do with it to make it "SPACY". If I do that one, it would be sleeker, because I am just not that attracted to it. 2) The VF-X is way too complex for me, so that's out. 3) The frontier crew look nice, kind of like a sci-fi rendition of modern real world deck crew. They may be doable with some dedicated modeling time, but they will have to wait their turn. The good news is I plan a TON of deck crew with the base SDF and DYRL space suits I already have designed. I'm thinking 10-20 variations. Your encouragement and ideas are always welcome.
  17. I can be convinced. But show me what you have in mind. Pick one or two of your favorite "SPACY" suits.
