  1. UN Spacy Haha, I'm sorry, but it will still be a little while before we get around to the Miyatake exhibition. We have been trying to schedule a podcast about that for over a month now but our schedules just don't match up... It's supposed to be the next one we record, though!!
  2. There are three store-exclusive variants. Check out the bottom of this page. https://www.bandaivisual.co.jp/macross_bd/ The content of the discs is the same, but there are some bonus inserts and/or packaging extras. The Animate version comes with an illustration card. The Amazon version comes with a bonus slipcase. The Tsutaya version comes with bromides (illustrations printed on photo stock paper). It's custom. Our mods think they're geniuses. Or should I say Jeniuses.
  3. Boom, new Blu-rays just came out today! And that, friends, concludes the Macross Movies BD collection. And I am happy to announce that the new DYRL Blu-ray has had the previously-censored violent scenes RESTORED! Hooray for ultra-violence, it's what everyone wants out of Macross! Do You Remember Gore?
  4. These just got released today, and I just got my hands on them. The verdict is IN -- Censorship has been officially removed.
  5. Well, according to the official BV site, they're supposed to be out on the 29th, and it's still the evening of the 27th here in Tokyo. However, I was walking along the "Sun Road" shopping area in Kichijoji (which Shogo Yahagi totally trashed in Megazone 23 Part II) on Monday and I noticed a DVD shop had this sign: Out on the 20th?? I went in but found nothing. (Well, not nothing: most DVD stores are mostly porn, these days...) I'm sure it's just a misprint. Hopefully Amazon gets my copy of The Galaxy is Calling Me before the Mylene Party event on the 30th, because Mica Okudoi will be there and I want her to sign it. Or I'll probably just get her to sign my LD version.

    Bandai DX VF-31

PREVIEW episode?? Haha. IIRC they didn't even come out until after the entire show finished airing.
  7. We're talking about the Shudista set, right? Actually, there are a bunch of interactive bonus features accessible only with a PS3 on the third disc.
  8. Actually, that is what the Japanese fans told me when we all went out drinking together after the screening. I noticed that it was a strange dialect/accent, and so I asked where it was from, and they responded with Kyushu. I spent quite a bit of time in Nagasaki and a girl taught me some hougen and it didn't really sound like that, so I had my doubts, but I wasn't going to argue with natives!
  9. Haha, that's hilarious because it was the best point in the entire series for me. Everything about that entire sequence is fantastic, from the designs, to the 2D and 3D animation, the filters used, the frame timing, the music and how it all blends together. Some of the CGI crowd shots might look out of place, but overall it is the only part I watch, apart from the end battle, I always skip the rest of the movie. They even went into extreme detail on the bonus disc explaining how the sequence was put together and if you have a PS3 you can playback the rough pencil keyframes, the textureless 3D models, and even see the actual pop-up papercraft models they used for the sets. Definitely a creative high point of the whole of Frontier, for me.
  10. Yeah, I agree it would get old, but I really don't think we will see it every episode. I'm cautiously optimistic that those scenes would know not to overstay their welcome. I agree here, the BGM and songs are somewhat forgettable... Maybe there was too much happening at once, but they didn't have the presence that Macross demands. With the exception of "Ikenai Borderline", the song at the end. That really made up for it in my opinion, and I actually like it more than Sheryl's "Iteza Gogo-kuji Don't be Late!" I recall that Sheryl song being good, but not good enough for me to keep listening to it over and over. That came later, with "Infinity" and "Diamond Crevasse". "Ikenai Borderline" alone sells this show, though, IMO. We'll see what else the OST has to offer...
  11. But if you look closely, just before the girls eject from the valks, their seats ARE already equipped with the EX-gears, in the interface mode. It's sort of weird that they would eject and leave the gear in there. Or that they would have them in the cockpit in the first place if they are already wearing an advanced version. :/
  12. That's a question you should ask yourself, Megatron. Oh wait, you already answered it, back in September!! http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=42893&p=1223639 I'm learning so much!!
  13. Ah. Yeah, that took me by surprise, but I actually thought it was awesome. It's amazing how the writers and animators made it so that a talking penis can help you care about whether the characters live or die in a battle situation. Macross Plus had zero merchandise, though, other than the CD and VHS/LDs themselves.
  14. That's not wishful thinking, that's homicidal thinking, sir.... Those are some dark, disturbing cartoons you are expecting I still don't know what people are talking about... What part specifically, was better? The "animation", as in how the valks moved? Or the textures on the CG models? Because they updated those from the Frontier TV show to the movies, they were cel-shaded on TV and then they got more detailed because of the bigger screen. Maybe it's just that all the action scenes in Delta are too dark to notice? You're missing the obvious:
  15. It got stupid in the SECOND season?? You know that right from the start there is a talking bear that works at the cafeteria, right? If you can accept that, what on Earth could have pushed you over the edge in season 2?? In my opinion, anime in general is much, much better now in 2015/6 than it was back in 2007/8 when Frontier was airing.
  16. Exactly!! Euphonium is a masterpiece, and everyone who is a fan of animation should watch it. There are so many visual nuances going on in every seemingly-mundane shot of that anime, it leaves you speechless. Loved every second of it.
  17. Looks to me like it extends, you can see it moving outwards in the final scene. The CG action was definitely impressive for 2008. The 2D animation, on the other hand... Well, Kyoto Animation had raised the bar so impossibly high with Haruhi, that there was no way Macross Frontier could compete.
