These are: Expositional, qualified by economy (no text dumps explaining how the world works); and Color, often characterized by (but not limited to) capriciousness and cleverness (adding oodles of character to the characters participating in the conversation), also it is about something. For the purposes of this discussion, I mean dialogue simply as the words in the script (not strictly distinguishing exchanges between two or more characters). It’s remarkable in that the series creator Kawamori Shoji, did not participate in this project. Honestly, I expected it to be terrible. However I merely found it pedestrian and boring despite featuring many of the tropes that characterize the Macross franchise. While watching it, I got fixated on rooting out the impact of Kawamori’s absence. I saw this too... in 1984 right? LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT. But man you remember more of it than I do. I vaguely remember a different OP theme: SU-PER SPACE FOR-TRESS!... MAAAACROSS! Unlike you the next Macross experience I had was Robotech already, so for a long time I had thought that was canon (and I thought very highly of Dr. Lang LOL). I've no deep hatred for ROBOTECH, it kept me good company way back then. But to address the main topic, when I saw what looked like an F-14 transform into a gerwalk, and THEN transform into a bipedal robot... WHOOOOSH. There was no turning back for me.
