  1. I'm surprised HG/Toynami still has the power to make a monopoly over the franchise, especially since they're working at a snail's pace to do anything new with it. Seems like they're untouchable even with the U.S. economy as it is. But then again, they're still getting money from fans desperately wanting new toys, merchandise and DVDs.

  2. If Maia's shadow fighter is the first in the Shadow Chronicles Collection, what will the rest be? Besides recolors for everyone's Alpha, Beta, and Cyclone from the film, all that's left are the Invid drones, the Haydonite ships and personnel, and that advanced Shadow Fighter seen for a bit near the end. I'm still wondering how the last one is any different from the rest.

    Am I missing any?

  3. Yeah, except 4 years ago at least it was a toy from a shows that many of us cared about. Now, it's just a recolor, from a horribly disappointed lazy self-serving movie.

Also, the U.S. is technically in a recession, so why spend money on a re-release with a different color and questionable quality? People should learn how to spend money more wisely, or at least stop giving it to these people if things like this tend to happen. Just screw authenticity and paint an existing fighter with Maia's colors if you want.

  4. it's possible. not necessarily because max took hikaru's place, but more probably because Max now has more air combat time than hikaru. I am presuming that max and hikaru were equal ranks at the start of DYRL. but since hikaru was gone for a long time, max contined to battle and go up the leadership chart. Who knows what battle achievements max had during hikaru's absence? only makes sense that he's assigned flight leader,r ather than Hikaru.

or maybe... hikaru was demoted because of what he did. if you really think about it, because of hikaru's insubordination and misuse of military equipment, he endangered a bridge officer, got a squadron leader killed, and allowed the enemy to kidnap the fleet's most prized civilian asset. it's a wonder hikaru wasn't thrown in front of a firing squad. :p

    Don't forget Kakizaki.

If it was just Roy, Hikaru, Max and Kakizaki in the squadron, Max's promotion was probably a no brainer.

  5. LOL! You guys are damn funny. But I remember Doug Bendo, has he posted here on MW? I remember his idiotic ass from the RT forums, part of the reason I got kicked out of the site. Haha.

I have my suspicions, but after digging through the Internet I think he came back to the RT forums as longbow385 promoting his show and projects. He gave himself away with when he confronted Treiz a while back.

  6. He's only NOW discovering Macross? After all the hub-bub surrounding MacII, Mac Plus, and Frontier? And he thinks it's some kind of mystery???

Hell, even a quick jaunt to Robotech.com would've told him the truth...

Someone get a tourniquet, Disgruntled Anime Fan is hemorrhaging credibility...

From the narration, it sounds like he was introduced to Robotech on Toonami, liked it and probably got pissed when he found out the history regarding Macross and the like. He might be disgruntled about either version or both.

  7. At least Southern Cross has a few fans (thanks mostly to Robotech). Imagine the sad, empty life of a hardcore Galvion fanatic...there's nothing there for them.

That's probably the sad truth. Perhaps it would have been better for it to fade into obscurity and then released in its entirety only recently like Orguss, except without the ADV/ImaginAsian DVD problems.

Oh, and you're forgetting the little-known fourth part of the Super Dimension Trilogy: Super Dimension Legend Rall. ;) Although that one's not terribly big these days, either. For completely different reasons. :p

    My God.

  8. Well...there was the dinosaur thingy on Planet Lux in Macross 7 that looked a lot like Jabby from Orguss...other than that, I certainly haven't noticed any.

I kind of doubt there would be any Southern Cross references, since A) it wasn't very popular, and B) none of the Macross staff worked on it (that I know of, that is).

That sucks, especially for Southern Cross these days.

  9. Not sure how that would work, since the freelancers and HG are clearly taking from Macross terminology and trivia with this new publication ("Valkyrie", for example). Still, I agree the whole thing is rather messy and I do mirror bsu's criticism about the source material for Robotech; they really need to build more of the RT franchise rather than selling the scraps of a 25 year old anime as "new product".

Agreed, it is HG's franchise and if they want to keep it going they should be more creative with its future. You can't rely only on nostalgia if you haven't made anything new for the last 25 years. There has to be somebody in there who can make a new, decent mecha, ship, etc., especially with their connections with the U.S. comic book and animation industry. That is, unless they don't have them anymore and don't want to spend money to be original.
