  1. I'm not sure if this qualifies as memorable but remember the scene when Quamzin captured Minmay, the good guys planned a good rescue operation. One part of the rescue operation is to lure Quamzin out of his base by faking a distress call from his guards. He didn't know that Zentradi who called for help is a U.N. Zentradi. After faking that distress signal, the Zentraedi asked a battroid to light his cigarette with a GU-11 gunpod! That dude has some nerves of steel to light a cigarette on his mouth with a gatling gun!
  2. Even though I applaud Yamato for re-releasing their toys, so guys like me who missed out the first time have the chance of getting one. With all of your sarcasm towards the original poster, I think you guys are missing an important point. I read Graham's review of the pre-production 1/48 VF-1S. To my understanding, this sample was given/loaned to him by Yamato to find any faults/QC issues. In his review, he stated the following faults: 1. Cockpit won't stay up 2. Big gap on the cockpit area when the landing gear is down 3. Skull emblem is skewed on the tailfin. I'm guessing Graham presented his review to Yamato, but did they fix this when they released the original VF-1S? No. What's the point of having a toy inspected if you're not going to fix the problem?
  3. I get my "facts" on the Macross Compendium Site. I quoted "facts" because I have no real proof if its accurate or not. But can anyone here debunk the Macross Compendium Site? Is that site full of crap? If it is, I'd delete it from my favorite list immediately. You're looking for print media or an interview as a proof that Kawamori did not intend DYRL as a movie within the continuity. There probably something out there, but unfortunately, I don't read Japanese. What about you? Can you show proof of an interview of Kawamori saying, "Heh, we just put DYRL in the Macross timeline to make some money." Or is that just your opinion? If Studio Nue and Kawamori says DYRL is a movie within the continuity, then I believe them, because they're the ones who created this series in the first place.
  4. How many historical movies we have today that has little or no historical accuracy? There are TONS if supposedly historical movies out there that is complete garbage if you're looking for historical accuracy (Braveheart, Windtalkers, Pearl Harbor, etc.) To say the idea of a "movie-within-a-movie" concept is ridiculous because it bare little resemblance to the TV series IS ridiculous. Besides, Studio Nue or Kawamori (sp?) could have simply said, "Hey, it's a movie based on the TV series, it's not part of the Macross timeline," or "It's an alternate reality" like they did with Macross II. They didn't have to say the it's a movie-within-a-movie. They did so because it fits.
  5. While the fact that DYRL was never intended as a "movie within a movie," I think the creators of Macross was right to make it so. If you really think about it, it fits. Do you remember the old cowboy movies where the Indians were often potrayed as savage people that kills indiscriminately? That was du to the prejudice attitude towards Native Americans back in those days. I think the same could be the same in the Macross Universe. Despite the fact that Zentraedis hold high position in the U.N., or the fact that there are plenty of interracial Zentraedi-Human relationships, I believe that there is a hint of prejudice towards the Zentraedi in the Macross Universe. Hey, It could be a great plot for the next Macross saga. That could be an alternate explanation to the monster-looking Vrlithwai and Exsedol. If the creators of Macross tells me that DYRL is a movie-within-a-movie, who the heck am I to question them? If you read my original post, I didn't ask why the creator of Macross made Vrilthwai look like a monster. I was asking why the people who made the movie "IN" the macross world made him look that way. It's just a hypothetical question, which you probably didn't get. PS: I have nothing against the poster that made the VF-1-VF-1X comparisons. That would have fit in the Macross timeline. Like in Saving Private Ryan, they used a fake Tiger on a T-34 hull because there's no working Tiger available. It's a nice idea that the "director" of DYRL probably used a VF1-X because there's no more original VF1s in working order.
  6. I don't know why some of you guys get uptight when I aked this question. In one thread, someone commented that the VF1s they used in DYRL wasn't really an original VF1 but a VF-1X, and no one told that poster he's a nerd for nitpicking a cartoon. One of the best thing about the Macross franchise that it has a sense of continuity. I was hit with nostalgia when I first saw Max and Millia in Macross 7, that's why I embraced the "movie within a movie" scenario. It makes sense that the people of Macross world would make a movie commemorating mankind's greatest victory. Hence the question of why they would potray Zentraedis as monster when there's probably thouands of them living in peace or marrying with humans. I wasn't nitpicking. I don't know why you guys would think that. I'm still unsure what's wrong with the topic.
  7. I don't know if this has been discussed before, but if DYRL is suppose to be a movie within the Macross world, wouldn't the Zentraedis be offended at how they were portrayed in the movie? Vrlitwhai became a prominent UN Commander after the war, yet they made him look like a monster in the film. I understand Bodolza's weird look since he's the bad dude, but Vrlitwhai's a hero!
  8. Thanks for the tip! I knock myself silly for not thinking about looking through the model section. Fortunately, I have several sheets of VF-1 stickers that still have a bunch of stuff left unused.
  9. I just got a YF-21 FP, my first ever YF-21 toy, and the instruction manual didn't come with a sticker guide like Yamato's other VF toys. I've searched the web but couldn't find anything. I'm reduced to watching Macross plus frame by frame to see any detail of the 21. My question is, did the original releae of the Yamato YF-21 have a sticker guide? And where I could download one? Thanks.
  10. What's so hard to understand? 1. Isamu, and Guld competed for Myung's affection when they were young. 2. Guld loves Myung, even when they were young, but ha a bit of insecurity problem (sometimes, he felt like Isamu and Myung were his friends only because they feel sorry for the Zentraedi kid). He has a big problem controlling his temper. So much so that he had to take drugs to control himself. 3. When he saw Isamu and Myung together, he flew into a jealous blind rage. His rage is focused primarily on Myung, because he thought she chose Isamu over him (notice that Guld didn't beat Isamu into a pulp. He just knocked out Isamu and turned to Myung). 4. Almost crazy with rage, he tore Myung's shirt, wanting to inflict as much pain as he was feeling by raping her. 5. But when he looked at the mirror, he saw himself, about to hurt the love of his life. Remember, Guld is suppose to be the straight-lace dude of the bunch. That's a shock enough to stop anybody. Then Guld probably screamed and ran out. I don't think Guld believed that Isamu raped Myung, only hurt her. If you believe someone you love was raped by someone, would you just looked at him coldly next time you see him? Another evidence for Guld NOT raping Myung is that, would Isamu stand for being accused as a rapist? Even if Guld managed to control his temper, if he belived Isamu as a rapist, why didn't he go to the authorities? They could have at least mention something about a rape investigation in Isamu's past, to give the "rape scenario" some credit. Isamu and Myung knew the truth, and because they still love Guld, (maybe they knew his rage problem) they just allowed Guld to have his delusion (Isamu not saying anything). And Myung never feared Guld. When she woke up after being rescued from the theater fire, she was only wearing her underwear yet she never hesitated on applying first aid on Guld. Would a rape victim be comfortable in her under around a half-naked rapist? I think not. And finally, when Isamu and Guld where finally reconciled, Guld said something like, "You both knew the truth, yet you hid it from me," and Isamu casually replied that they just forget about it. Then they laughed together! I don't know much about Japanese culture, but I would think that rape is not something they just forget casually. "Oh, remember the time you raped our best friend? Ha Ha ha!" Not very realistic, huh? You guys look for symbolisms when there is not. Ripped shirts don't necessarily symbolizes rape. Heck, I've had my shirts ripped sometimes on fights, yet I don't think the guy I fought wanted to rape me.
  11. I was browsing through the Macross Compendium site and came upon a stat that the SDF-1 carried 212 Valkyries during the TV show. In those 212, 20 or so were VF-1S version. My question is, why Focker and Hikaru are the only one to use use a 1S? And they had to share! I admit I haven't seen an episode of the original Macross in 15 years but I don't remember anyone else flying a VF-1S.
  12. I need some help painting my Bandai VF-19s. What kind of paint can I use on the toy's glossy surface? Model paints just flake off when I used them.
