  1. Popping off easily Bandai explains as being 'to prevent damage to the thin, fragile parts'. So working as intended, they just pop back on. The issue some people have had is that one will be less sturdy than the other, and at extremes will also be misaligned. This aspect usually affects the left fin, and the consensus is that it's due to a design defect at the joint. However, should yours be aligned properly out of the box, then it should be fine (but will still pop off rather easily). The issue is that Bandai is only addressing the 'pops off' part and states that any further issue must be the customer's fault, and does not even address the issues with those who received completely misaligned fins.
  2. It is, thank you! Interesting, they don't admit to there being an actual issue with the fins, they instead point out that using excessive force or attempting to reattach the fins at any angle other than dead on will erode the tiny nubs that hold them in place, which will cause them to no longer seat properly. So essentially...covering their asses. Ah well.
  3. Would you happen to have a scan/photo of the insert? I'm curious as to what Bandai had to say officially about this particular issue. My YF-19 is still in the box for now, but I did check and the head laser is intact so at least I dodged that one. For anyone keeping score at home, I ordered from AmiAmi, shipped EMS, and live in California.
  4. I actually prefer the one you have flying, since it looks more like the YF-19--longer wingspan and such than the VF version. I actually prefer the YF, personally, and have been waiting for someone to give it a proper FS model. Looked good, but I do have one comment. Overspeed much? XD
  5. All-Purpose Cultural Catgirl Nuku Nuku TV featured a cameo of Fire Bomber and his VF-19, albeit with silver/blue alternate colors. XP I used to have a pic somewhere. Dunno where it went.
  6. Note: In terms of "Macross" dubbing, I have only heard Robotech--and that was over a decade ago, when I was a little kid. I don't remember it very well. Thus, I can't comment on the quality. The fact that Mari was dubbing was what made me nod my head in approval. Dubbing itself has many problems, however. Some Japanese phrases are long and mean something shorter in English, and vice versa. Thus, the English ADR script-writers have to fill in/take out the blanks. And then there are Japanese word-plays (which SDF Macross has few of, I've noticed), which don't translate well. This is why I liked Excel Saga and Comic Party's dubs--they weren't always true to the Japanese script, but they made it more easy to flow with what was happening on-screen for an English-speaking audience. Now, again, I haven't seen the dub, so I'm not sure which situation they're doing... or if they're just going off into la-la land for no reason. I plan to buy the DVDs, but not until there's more of the series out. So, we'll see.
  7. FUNimation used to be on my hate list. But as of late, they really haven't shown me anything to dislike them. Except Kodocha--and then I found out that it wasn't FUNi, it was the licensing group for the band TOKIO that screwed it up. So yeah, no hate here. 4Kids, on the other hand... If I were looking for a dub for this... I would be tempted to go either Bandai or Geneon, based upon past dubs. Some of ADVs dubs are... interesting (Lost Universe, Nuku Nuku)... whereas some are just plain awesome (Excel Saga, Cromartie). Bandai's been pretty consistent with their dubbing quality (can't comment on Seed, though...), and Geneon is really fired up lately and putting out some really great stuff. Then again, ADV has Mari doing the original series dub. This alone would sway me to let ADV just take care of DYRL. XD
  8. I still can't shake the "plasticy" feeling of these renders... is it an option in Maya to have models smoothed to make them look like... well... models? I find it very difficult to describe the way an image "feels," but I'll try this. The edges seem a little too rounded, and there are "speckles" on the surface which are reminiscent of plastic. For reference: http://img464.imageshack.us/img464/9848/1000860mw9.jpg It is a poor picture because the camera is poor, but you can see the light reflecting off of the varied surface of the plastic in the handle. It is this "effect" in the renders that I've been talking about. The way the renders look like pastic models rather than full-sized metallic starships and seafaring vessels. As for the designs themselves, quite impressive and well-done. A great eye for detail--especially on the Deadalus. I didn't even recall it having a bridge like that. Shows how much I know, eh? Keep up the great work, NW
  9. If you don't find said "some one," I'd be willing to do it. I have a subbing program if they aren't timed, and know how to overlay them even if they are. (though I think soft-subs are better..)
  10. Maybe they wouldn't complain if you just posted the Claudia/Misa yuri? 416527[/snapback] *double take* It exists!? Anyway, I thought that the pic was supposed to be funny... and it was... XD So I don't find anything to complain about. It's not like it's supposed to come out like a frame from Macross Zero, here. Don't complain so much about "quality." XP
  11. The Macross Plus PSX game is pretty fun, actually. Besides, it had a versus mode where you could use Destroids. Win. (And playing it on an emu with netplay... yeeeah...) I wish there had been a cool Macross 7 game like I wish for a cool G Gundam game. Maybe something like Gitaroo Man for controls, and go through a Macross 7 side-story... yeah... that'd pwn...
  12. No, I haven't--only heard the theme song. XP I apologize for making a mass assumption. That was an ass thing to do. When you assume things you make an "A" out of "ss" and... "um-e" or... something... Previous post edited to create a more accurate argument.
  13. Seconded--Terragen is an amazing, amazing program. It's mostly used for creating worldscapes (well, that's what it appears to be best at), but with some tinkering you can get some rather nice results even on smaller scales. Never tried to make a replica of an already existing island before, though. As for your "poll," I'd like to see more of the Macross and Island modelled. I think that VF-1A looks its best all shiny in Fighter. ^-^
  14. Minmei and her family are Chinese, not Japanese. Just trying to put another possible aspect into the view.
  15. Hater. I just needed to correct something left uncorrected... the speaker pods shot from Basara (and others') guns are just that--speaker pods. Invented prior to this whole discovery of Spiritia/Song Energy. I'm fairly certain that that Dr. Chiba's lack of knowledge about Basara is proof enough that he didn't invent the speaker pods. And it clearly shows--repeatedly--that when the speaker pod hits an enemy craft, it buries itself into the frame, seals the fissure created (effectively sealing it in place, as well) then transmits Basara's transmission through a speaker mounted on it straight into the frame/cockpit. Thus, it wouldn't matter if you tore the radio system out of the enemy craft--the speaker pod is totally separate. If you're talking about the sound boosters, though, then JB0 had it right--they don't actually focus on transmitting sound waves themselves, but rather amplifying the Spiritia released by the pilot of the Sound Boosted craft. The vest (that silver thing the band members wear) allows for a more focused Spiritia transmission, while the boosters amplify and then transmit (or "fire," if you'd prefer a weapons-grade term) the Spiritia energy at the intended target(s). I once role-played in a SRW setting as one of Fire Bomber. Quite fun to take on a Zeon fleet using song. But yeah. Pretty neat concept... I think of it as an extension of the "Minmei System" thing used in Macross II. Yeah, I know that isn't canon. But it's a similar concept--using song as a focused enemy deterrent rather than as a "what's this? Singing makes them pause?" thing like in SDF Macross/DYRL. Also, I don't think that Macross 7 itself had enough "adult" situations to dismiss a target audience of young children. The Dynamite OVA, on the other hand... well, the Japanese culture is quite different from an American culture. They don't really have that, "Heavens! Young children cannot watch this slightly racy stuff!" mentality as far as I know.
