Concerning DYRL White for VF-1 Valkyries

86 members have voted

  1. 1. Which white do you prefer for your DYRL Valkyries?

    • Off white!
    • Bright white!
    • I don't care, as long as Arcadia doesn't abandon the VF-1 design.

Recommended Posts

After two VF-1S releases, Arcadia has also released the YF-19 and has been quietly focusing on the VF-0D, and a few side projects. No new VF-1 announcements have been made to date. The initial DYRL releases were something of a mixed bag for a few reasons:

  1. Missing Tampo markings
  2. A large bulky stand that replaced the preferred Strike/Super Parts
  3. Arcadia's new DYRL white

This poll focuses solely on point 3. Think of it as a fun, unscientific exercise to see where MacrossWorld leans, or to determine if this issue is even important anymore.

And if you have anything else to add, feel free to comment!

I also thought it would be fun to try the poll widget.

Edit: The polls are closed and the final results are in. A big 'THANK YOU' to everyone who voted!

Only VF-1's I need from Arcadia are the few missing tv variants....are there any canon DYRL variants missing...other than repaints/squadron colors?

That's a good question. I think Yamato may have covered everything, but there are others who would know better than me.

I'm facing a conundrum because I have more Yamato Valkyries than when I started, and I want those whites to match! LoL!

you know my vote!

Yeah. Like I noted above, I'm at the same crossroads (which is why I 'm holding my vote). Going all Yamato would be great for my DYRL display, but it will be a nightmare for my wallet, unless I can borrow some of your luck. HaHa! If Arcadia would commit to doing their own white DYRL set, then my choice would be easier.

It's tough not having any news, and being antsy. :p

When you say you have more yamato valks...do you mean TV or DYRL? TV are white...so unless Arcadia wants to be ironic and release future TV VF-1's in "off-white"...then you have no need to get the Arcadia TV versions if they are re-released unless you want the extras like option parts and potential bits like a baby pod on a future VF-1J Milia release...

The only real concern is if you are half way on your DYRL collection....honestly, the bright white was a cool idea, but they should have referred to them as "anime style"....if they do eventually re-release the rest of Skull Squadron...they will be bright white...however, since they were not released immediately after the Roy and Hikaru VF-1S's....I have a feeling that the "bright white" in any upcoming batch will not match that of the "pinkish" VF-1S's they recently released.....In short, go for the Yamato's...complete the set.....buy some recast option parts....sleep soundly.... ^_^

Haha! Good point. Thanks, jvmacross.

And yes, I was talking about the Yamato DYRL Valks above. The only TV Valkyrie I have today is the 1/60 VF-1D. I used to have a nice set of 1/48 TV Valkyries (including Max and Milia), but I had to sell them some years back during a rough spot.

I think I would prefer the off-white variant. However the two VF-1 Valkyries in my collection are the new Arcadia white. So if Arcadia is doing more VF-1 Valkyries from DYRL like Kakizaki and Max I would prefer if they stick with the same color.

I voted for "Off White".

I would have voted for "I don't care, as long as it DOESN'T HAVE HUES OF PINK".

so true

Voted.

Off-white for me on DYRL Valkyries please. I've sold (2) of my (4) Arcadia VF-1S's (a Roy and Hikaru) and the other two are also MIB because I just don't care for the color change, especially when compared to the Yamato DYRL releases.

I prefer the bright white for my Valks but in my opinion all DYRL should be in theoff white because that is in fact how it looks in the movie. I still think they should make them in two different colors. I did honor the thread and voted bright white....even though I love my DRYL valks, I like bright colors in my collection.

The off white for sure is the better color but I still love the bright whites which are faithful to the original anime!

But as nice as a v3 VF-1 would be the very idea scares me somewhat as the potential cost involved in re-collecting a whole new range and then what to do with the old v2 which would then be obsolete and nobody will want to buy anymore...

I still really like the way my bright white Hikaru 1S looks. I'd like a bright white Max 1S to complement it.

^^This. Thanks for mentioning it, Mommar. I thought we would actually have Arcadia's Max 1S by now, or at least have word of some future release. Having all three of these to display would plant me firmly in the "I don't care" group. ^_^

Good point, spanner. I wonder if this would happen if Arcadia was able to license Macross The First designs? If a reworked VF-1 sculpt became v3, then would v2 really become obsolete or would it retain its value because of nostalgia for the original series?

I don't know, a V3 would have to be pretty radically different to top the V2s. At best the differences will be minor. If Arcadia whips out some fancy new things for the VF-0, and if those things can be shrunken down to work on a VF-1, we might see a newer VF-1 mold but I highly doubt they could make something so radically better that the V2s they would be completely obsolete like the V1s were.

There's absolutely no reason for them to issue a V3 25.

This is true! Personally I'm happy with how they are although they could have further refined the design of certain joints with the renewals..

V2 after the introduction of V3 would become todays V1.

Absolutely agree! Thats what im affraid of. I think the v2 reached a good point aside from weak shoulders or a lack of overall surface details but its that what makes them what they are!

The VF-1's will probably not see a V3 version from Arcadia however Bandai could issue a V3 for their VF-25's a few years from now.

Again i have to agree. I cant see Arcadia investing in a makeover for the VF-1.. For them to make it worthwhile they would have to release a whole range of types and liveries and could you imagine how painful that will be for the whole community of collectors!

And a second edition VF-25 renewal or v3.. Geez i hope not!

Heh. It's an interesting "what if" scenario. I can see both sides, but I agree with skullmilitia. The more time that goes by with no news, the more I wonder if Arcadia has something in mind.

I guess we will all find out eventually. ;)

I actually really like the bright white colour of the Arcadia DYRL Valks, I'd definitely buy Max's 1A/S and Kakizaki's 1A if Arcadia released them in bright white.

To be honest, I was never really happy with the grayish off-white that Yamato used for the DYRL Valks.

I also like the new Acadia display stand, I think the storage compartment is a great idea for storing all the option parts.

yeah skullmilitia does put a good point through and I'd love to be in the same position (purchasing wise) but that's just not going to be possible unless I start selling myself of just body parts / organs..

the silence is scary but sometimes no news is good news!

I have been up to this point quite fortunate that I have an understanding partner regarding my pricey collecting habit but I don't want to push my luck with it..

I voted for bright-white. I wasn't too happy with the off-white hues on my DYRL valks.

i'm hoping future arcadia releases are more consistent with the yamato tv whites, not the yamato "assembly kit" pink white. here's hoping the factories were just using remaining parts from yamato assembly kits to save money and they're all used up. i like both my tv whites and dyrl, but avoiding the uv sensitive whites.

DYRL off white actually may be closer to tv standard white in color temperature. 6500K (D65) or maybe there's some yellow mixed in.

The TV white we're looking at, is really some blue mixed in to make it look bright. T-shirt companies do it all the time to get that real bright white look.

i got another yamato roy tv valk today. and i was willing to open it to compare to arcadia roy and yamato dyrl roy and i discovered a few more interesting things.

just observing fighter mode:

yamato roy

has almost a bluish green intake covers, feet and neck.

for the roy tv:

the intake covers and feet are very dark grey almost black...

the neck piece which the vf-1s head plugs into is still the yamato DYRL bluish green color which matches the yamato roy dyrl but does not match the yamato tv.

arcadia roy

intake covers and feet are identical to tv roy as well as the neck piece is still using the yamato bluish green dryl roy colors.

the yamato tv and arcadia differ in color in only two points it's actually more than two points. (haven't transformed it):

-the small hook on the backpack

-the shoulder joints under the should pads.

-update: you can add in the entire arms and underside of the back piece where the arms are stored in fighter mode. definitely some parts are white mixed with parts that are UV-ish white)

-the yamato tv roy the whole valk is consistently white all over identical to hikaru's tv 1j:

-the arcadia roy is identical to every the roy tv except the parts mentioned above.(update discovered more then two places that are very UV/pink or purple.)

it's that pink under the shoulders projects onto the rest of the arms to make the valk look pinker than it is but it's really just the shoulders, at least on my arcadia roy.

(i'm only looking at it from the bottom of fighter. the most distinctive is the backpack hook between the two. where you can easily see the yamato roy white's consistent while the arcadia roy's hook (as mentioned by another MW member) is pink/purple) or a glaze white that's associate with the UV frisbees i own.

well pretty much the arcadia roy is identical to yamato tv roy in every way. (except the uv sensitive parts mentioned)

for those that are perfectionists:

the dyrl colored super and strike packs which are bluish green, are a perfect color match with the yamato dyrl roy's intake covers, feet and neck.

while the arcadia roy, identical to the yamato roy TV, only matches the dyrl super and strike parts color in the neck area.

personally i like roy tv's near black colored intake covers and feet, i say it matches well with the black on the jolly rodgers scheme.

so arcadia roy is cool if you can just put up with the backpack hook and a few other spots that are uv sensitive.

but i still prefer the off white grey/yellow dyrl shade best.

wow that is a detailed analysis dave! btw, are you looking at these under flurorescent lights to see easier?

Anyway, to be honest I just like consistency. it'd be nice for those collecting dyrl if all the valks were the same "off white" (although i'm not sure thats an accurate description) as the yamato. i'm not super fussed about the intake covers and feet though it'd be nice to have consistency there as well.

that being said, what i would prefer for the dyrl valks would be (and this is in my dream world and will never happen probably so don't shoot me)...a very very light grey instead of off white...sort of like some of the bandai 1/55 (not sure if just the reissue was like that in 2001/2002 or if they always were).

back to the real world, i think arcadia really kinda screwed with a lot of collector's plans when they released the bright white (with a few pinkish uv sensitive parts) for those yamato 1/60 collectors looking to round out their collections. fortunately for me, i have all i wanted from dyrl already...well i guess it'd be NICE to have a vf-1s max...but i'm not about to hunt one down if i have to pay a lot for it. :-)
