Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but didn't think I need to start a new thread to ask a question.  I know I'm late to the game but finally got through the first season 2199 and its just amazing, WOW!!!  Haven't started 2202 nor the first 6 episodes of 2205.

Is there a YamatoWorld website forums I can start looking for toys?  I'd love to get a Yuki Mori and Yamamoto Akira figure, is there a site that reviews them like Macross stuff or where's the best place to start researching stuff like that.  For that matter what is the best sculpt for them, and I might as well get into Misa and Minmay too.  I don't know too much about figures, I've always been a Macross toy guy.  I just want the best representation of each to stand behind the toys.  I also can't find any Bandai toys of the Cosmo Zero - it would be great to have that like our Valkyrie Bandai DXs.

Any tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I've already eyed the Megahouse Yamato Girls from eBay but was wondering if there were some more anime accurate (less sexy) sculpts (they seem better than the Bandai which just seems too tall and thin).  Is eBay the only way to go with these figures nowadays (everything at Mandarake seems sold out)

All hail the Necro-Thread!😁

I don't know much (or anything) about the figures, but if you've watched 2199, then make sure to see Odyssey of the Celestial Ark. It's about a two hour long movie set during the voyage back to Earth. Very good encapsulated story.

It's been a while since the series was fresh, so the figures and toys may be few and far between by now, or at the very least inflated in price.  I want to say I remember something like a couple of Figma-esque releases of some of the figures, but I don't know who might have made them.

As for toys of the ships though.. I don't even think there have ever been any, outside of a few very limited and expensive Chogokin-type releases that were even smaller than their kits.  HLJ lists the old one as a 20cm die-cast model made by Megahouse that's out of production.

I did find one other toy, it was apparently a crane-game prize in the $15 range by Taito, and about a foot long, but the size is the only thing going for it, as it's nothing like a DX release.  It's also not specifically the 2199 version, it's an older style from what I have to guess is either the original show, or one of the movies.

I do see one seller of these on Amazon for $90 US, which is crazy, but might be the only reliable source.  It's nothing special out of the box, but looks like it would fit a 1/48 pilot, and could be customized nicely.

Outside of that, you're pretty much limited to whatever kits Bandai still may or may not still produce.  The 1/72 Cosmo Zero and Falcon kits are your typical modern Bandai molds, and very similar to their Star Wars kits, but the external weapons will need glue to mount.  Fantastic little things, I've got several of the various releases.  Most of them look like they're still available on HLJ for pretty reasonable prices, but they all appear backordered.  I think those would be your best bet, even if you just do minimal model work on them to get them presentable, since they're all molded in multiple colors with both stickers and decals.

Bandai also made some super tiny versions of these ships like they did for the Macross Delta planes, and there's a variety of the capital ships, but I never tried any of those.

2202... visually was awesome. But you need to look at Cosmo DNA's reviews about specific episodes before you understand what's going on with Galatis Empire (and it was a concept that i didn't see at first viewing, which IS the fault of the production team behind 2202). I agreed with Dynaman and Mechanianc's assessments when it first came out but after reading some episode reviews, i changed my grade for the series to a C+. It could have been better (much better) but it's not super bad. The issue is editing and pacing, especially in the ship porn at 17 and after...

Thanks for the info - I guess they don't have a following like Macross?  Shame so much toy potential, I remember Star Blazers growing up as a kid and I love my Soul of Chogokin Yamato 2199 and Andromeda, I just thought there would be just as many toy companies clamoring at all the amazing mech designs (seems like its only the capital ships that get any attention)!  I love the fighters too and even the character designs are great.  That's too bad about 2202, but I'll slog through it, just now its not such a priority I guess.

Definitely get through it in order to reach 2205. There is another series planned, though I don't know how far along that is.

As for toys, there were not many, but there was a GLUT of models that came out during the initial 2199 run. Hard to get now at reasonable prices, and I think 2202's poor performance killed off a few more kits. Shame too.

What Thom said.  No toys I remember but lots of models, and still more being produced but not at a brisk pace.

Is 2205 available (legally) subbed or dubbed in English yet?  The dub cast has grown on me, I didn't like them at first since they were different from the old Star Blazer series 1 and 2 cast but a few episodes in and I was good.

Yeah, glad I got some when it first came out before I got to viewing the episodes - I just loved the mech designs so much and there were some good books too!  I have the both the new Cosmo Zeros but I'm looking for a Falcon now at a reasonable price.  Looks like the figures are only available at eBay at a markup, not too bad considering they are almost 10yrs old I guess.  Would love a 1/48 Bandai DX Cosmo Zero that folds up in scale with the Valkyries!!!

I haven't found any dub of 2005 yet, in fact I only found 8 episodes - how many episodes is it supposed to be?  There's no info on the Funimation site, I believe they were responsible for the 2199 & 2202 dubs.  Me too, the dub is really growing on me as well as I love watching the beautiful artwork on screen and I find reading the subtitles really knocks me out of the immersion of the art.

HLJ has the 1/72 Falcon kits listed too, but like the Zero kits, all backordered.  BBTS also has a fair number of kits listed, primarily the larger fleet vessels, with higher base prices, but $4 shipping, so that might come out roughly even compared with HLJ.  They only have the one Cosmo Zero kit, and it's listed as a pre-order for March 2023, so they may be anticipating more stock soon.

Been really tempted to mod a Falcon to give it bigger wings.  I love the design, and I know why the wings are so narrow, but it looks like it would make a really nice atmospheric fighter if it had some more lifting surface.

One kit I found interesting was the "Blackbird" type Zero, which mostly is just the original molded in different colors, and with some different weapons.  I thought it was weird because it actually comes with a canopy molded in transparent green plastic, which I think was what they were all supposed to have all along.

I expect Sony’s purchase of Crunchyroll has delayed things—and for more releases than just SB Yamato. Sony is consolidating everything under the Crunchyroll brand. Here’s an ANN link with more info:
