I'm darn curious what was on the wall-panel for Grace. You can make out Nanase's pretty clearly.

This?

Well, Minmay was there. Oh.

At Shibuya, Mikimoto-san's autograph session.

I have never expected many MW members there.

I'll just put this here.

Round two. You can only put 10 pics up at a time. Epic Fales Diva.

Round Three. Just noticed, this thing mushes all the text together. Hmm.

Round whatever. Boy, this is going to make no sense when people try to read it...

Blah blah blah.

Sa hajimaruze SATURDAY NIGHT; Choushi wa dou dai? LET'S STAND UP, BEAT wo kanjiru kaiii?

London Calling, yes, I was there too, and you know what they said? SOME OF IT WAS TRUE

I'M THE SCATMAN BEE BABA DADABBUP, BEE BABA DADABBUP

OK, I think we're quite near to the end now. Just one or two more batches...

Oh my god, what an ultra fat mega post this has turned out to be. Not doing this again anytime soon...

Right, Deculture Baby, Mikimoto, Moet&Chandon, and WE'RE DONE, phew, thank you.

Just got back from "Macross the Design" in Shibuya. Pretty great exhibit!

Here's the ticket:

MegaroadTicket.jpg

My favorite stuff was definitely old storyboard and script booklets, as well as a lot of the sketches and early designs, but I really geeked out at Basara's guitar and Hikaru's photo album, with an upside-down Minmay poster above in, and "Runner" playing in the background.

I turned around, saw the poster, and burst out laughing. My girlfriend (who hasn't seen much Macross) asked me, "Is it a mistake?"

Seeing Kawamori's Lego Valks was pretty great, too.

Overall, I was surprised at how LARGE the exhibit was. And it was nice to see that, although every Macross series was represented, the focus was really on the original.

EDIT: Huh. Not sure why the pic came out backwards...Let's try it again.

Really?

Please, if you could post some pics from sketches and early designs, it'll be great^^

And are they originals or copies?

Unfortunately pictures are not allowed at the Macross The Design exhibit, only at the 1:1 valk in ikebukuro.

I agree with Gubaba though- seeing the upside down Minmay poster cracked me up (^▽^)

Oh, one thing I recalled this morning when I woke up...

Anyone remember this comic cover?

post-939-0-43452400-1335842899_thumb.jpg

Well, there was some pre-production art at the exhibit that was VERY similar, except that the battroid was in mid-air, and closer to the foreground (i.e. closer to the actual size).

Makes me wonder how much of the art HG had access to.

Renato and I looked at that piece too. I mentioned the Twin Towers but the main difference that Renato pointed out was that it's the preliminary SDF-1 design but it had final design legs.

Looks like a good exhibit overall (except for the dreadfully claustrophobic room that VF-25 is in.) I know we've had discussions on which show is more visible/memorable and that Frontier really brought in newcomers/younger kids but this exhibit looks like it did a pretty good job educating them on all things Macross from the past as well.

Very nice pics Renato. Do you know if the Kawamori interview is printed in a magazine or available on the web? From the pics you took, it's a fascinating read to see his thoughts of first Macross (toy makers saying planes wouldn't sell and the hellish production schedule with three hours of sleep a week), his ideas on Flashback (only did it because he wanted to play with the editing functions), Macross 7 (finally gave in to doing another TV series), Macross Plus (digital technology advances) and Macross Zero (trip to Laos and Thailand, and real war survivors influencing the story and production). I'd like to see the entire interview one day. :>

How's that?

The official actually admitted that the part of the hand of Valkyrie is fragile, on the other hand, Gundam in Odaiba have designed to endure rain because it is installed outdoors. Valkyrie is shown only 10 days or so indoors, but Gundom stays for long outdoors.

Really cool 1:1 macross model, but too bad they didn't build it at the same quality of the 1:1 gundam statue.

Yeah! I want to see 1:1 macross! You mean SDF-1?

It's gonna be taller than Burj Khalifa in Dubai!!! lol

1:1 Gundam has an internal skeleton and removable limbs. Gundam can be easly transported after disassembly.

As far as I understand, 1:1 VF-25F is made from wood and resin. It does not have a skeleton, so I have some doubts about a full gerwalk's posability without leaning against somewhere. :( I hope that I'm wrong...

Okay, I went to the Ikebukuro event today (with the 1/1 Valk), with Tochiro, Save, some of our friends, and, er, Minmay (or at least an incredible simulation), and while it definitely had more WOW! factor than the Shibuya exhibit, I think I prefer the Shibuya one. Shibuya had more background and making-of type stuff, and focused more on the first series, whereas the Ikebukuro event was more video, music, and statues.

After the event, we went to the Nyan-Nyan Cafe, and all of us independently ordered the "Lynn Minmay," a blueberry drink, instead of the "Ranka Lee" (melon soda with ice cream), the "Sheryl Nome" (some pink soda - strawberry, maybe? - with an Oreo cookie on it), the "Super Galactic Man" (based on Alto, not sure what was in it), or the "Decul-CHA" (tea).

Then we went around collecting stamps for the stamp rally, went back to Shibuya, and turned them in, which netted us a free mini clearfile.

All in all, a good day.

Oh, and when you first walk in to the Ikebukuro event, there's a star map similar to the one at the opening of Frontier TV, but I think they calculated this one out a little better.

EDIT: Oh, and on the Valkyrie development wall chart, they used the Pink Pecker Team to represent the VF-11C. I laughed.

EDIT: And one more thing I thought was funny: The sign next to the Sheryl and Ranka statues saying, "Low-angle photos are prohibited." We don't want any panty-flashes, after all...
