  1. Just like the title says. I've been fooling around with sound editing and would love to get my hands on some classic mecha SFX. Like walking, flying, whatever is out there. Macross, Gundam, Bubblegum Crisis, that sort of thing. Does anyone know where to look?
  2. Aww, that puts a damper on Max's return. But yeah, that makes sense. Fansubbers staying away since an official release is likely imminent.
  3. I don't suppose anyone here saw a low budget Nicktoons TV show called Alien Dawn back in 2013? It's a live action series with a lot of animated sequences in the form of a comic book that the show revolves around. The first episode opens with an experimental space ship being launched and there's a couple familiar faces in the crowd observing the launch.
  4. My wishlist for a new Macross, in no particular order: Characters I will absolutely fall in love with by the end of the series. Unique looking variable fighters that will be instantly recognizable. Either a unique and interesting art style, or just bring back Mikimoto because that man can do no wrong. Some new ship designs to fall in love with that aren't trying too hard to just be the old designs warmed over. Music that will remain in my playlist for the next 30+ years. I'm not holding my breath for 2D mecha animation, but I'd certainly love to see it. Delta didn't do it for me. The characters, music, mecha, the art style, the ships...none of it really clicked with me. So I'm hoping this new show will give me something to get excited about. I'm not one of those "SDF or bust" types. I love Macross 7 and Frontier. Plus is a classic, and I enjoyed Zero. One thing I love about Macross is that it rarely just tries to repackage old ideas.
  5. This is one of the reasons I decided to poke my head in here again (Hi everyone, long time no see!) I really wasn't a big fan of Delta, but I heard Max appears in this and that was enough to make me want to check it out. But I can't seem to find it anywhere. Has it not come out on BluRay yet? I would have figured there'd be fansubs by now.

    The Strike

This popped into my head the other day and I felt compelled to make it. Lots of people I know are talking about the strike, but not many of them are also Macross fans. So figured I'd drop in here and share. I just hope this is the right place to put it.
  7. There was a comic about him during and after order 66. The Bad Batch episode retcons all of it. It proves a point I've been making ever since Disney threw out the EU and declared everything would be canon. Between the movies, the TV shows, the comics, the novels, etc there's just too many people involved, too many moving parts for it all to work as a single canon narrative. Things are going to get retconned, and the movies and TV shows are always going to take priority over the books and comics when it comes to canon because those reach the most people. I'm not particularly bothered by the retcon itself, but as a comic artist I am always a bit miffed when comics are treated as throw-away material.
  8. I still have and cherish my Animeigo DVD set, but I could see it being difficult now for someone to pick up SDFM if they went looking for it. HG's web store doesn't have it. I couldn't find it on Amazon. It's listed on Prime Video on Amazon but every episode says "video unavailable", so I'm not even sure SDFM is streaming anywhere. It's my modest hope that as BigWest begins pushing the Macross franchise in the west it will prompt HG to rerelease SDFM to Blu-Ray and streaming. On a somewhat related note, is anyone else disappointed that every video after Flashback 2012 on the Macross YouTube channel is region locked? I subscribed to the channel the day of the announcement and every time they upload a new video it's "not available in your region".
  9. My impression is that HG's days of claiming ownership of every little Macross design are over and that all they have are a license to distribute and merchandise the original TV series (and merchandise but not distribution for DYRL). I know after 20 years of HG being a trademark troll makes it hard to get our hopes up, but I think it's time to stop thinking in terms of HG claiming ownership of every individual element of SDFM and start thinking of HG being like any other anime licensee. The fact that Big West can distribute Flashback 2012, complete and uncut, demonstrates this.

  11. I picked up the early access for SubNautica and absolutely love it. The first SubNautica is easily my favourite game in like a decade. And I'm normally not interested in survival/crafting games. So far the sequel feels less mysterious, but I'm still loving my time with it.
  12. I think a lot of character is lost in the translation from animated (or any drawn media) to live action. I thought "Bumblebee" was great, but it still didn't hold a candle to the 80's animated movie. "Mask of the Phantasm" is my favourite Batman movie, and none of the live action films even come close. Same goes for "Into the Spider-verse" and the live action Spider-man movies. I think the Marvel MCU films are all fine, but I'd be more excited if they put the same kind of money into animated Marvel movies. ETA: That's not to say that live action has less character than animation, or animation is inherently a better medium, just that there's not a 1=1 translation between different forms of media. Take something that was live action and adapt it to animation and you both gain and lose character. Same with hand drawn animation to CG. Or CG to live action. It's going to be different and that inherently is going put it at a disadvantage with fans of the original material. It definitely does not help if the people doing the adapting don't respect the source material or its medium and begin making changes in a bid to gain wider "mainstream appeal".
  13. I didn't really intend to start some kind of debate. The age thing wasn't a big deal for me as I still consider Frontier a great series. I do miss hand drawn mecha, though. Dynamite 7 remains a favourite of mine partially because it's the last Macross with great hand drawn mecha action. And a great variety of mecha at that. (And no, this isn't intended to start any debate, either. The CG mecha in Zero, Frontier and such are fine, and I totally get the CG allows them to do more with a tighter budget, I just have a preference for hand drawn mecha.)
  14. Palpatine was in the first teaser trailer. Personally, I didn't dislike the Bad Batch when they appeared in season 7. This seems like an opportunity to flesh them out beyond one note characters, and the idea of a bunch of clones going all A-Team post Clone Wars sounds like fun. Plus it has Filoni at the helm and I loved Clone Wars so I'll be checking it out.
