New Homeworld 2 Macross Mod

Very interesting job. I like what I see. I actually modded Homeworld2 for a good bit last year. It is really amazing sometimes, but a pain to get somethings to work. My primary area of psuedo expertise involves HOD and hardpoint stuff. My greatest achievment had to be my retooling of the FS2 mod into the campaign of HW2.

The campaign looked a lot more interesting and I psuedo balanced the races. It was the Terrans vs the Vasudans instead of the shivans because their bloody ships were too powerful. Any way I might be able to help a little bit.

But good work never the less.

Update

Red Vajira is in process of being modeled

Once I have the Vajira race and appropriate research, for UNS and Vajira, set up, I might start doing balancing tests. I will be looking for people to help me out with these tests. So if anybody is interested, please look into the .ship and .wepn documentation(Simple variable editing) at http://hw2wiki.net/wiki.hw2.info/VariableShip.html and http://hw2wiki.net/wiki.hw2.info/FunctionS...aponConfig.html. I expect the testers to be able make balancing modifications on their own.

Hey im just curious for the VF transformation... cant you make the mode it is in defien what it transforms into? like i dotn rember if in HW u got Passive,normal,and agresive modes but lets say u switched to agressive mode cant you make the VF go into battledriod,then normal into gerwalk,Defensive wich is gunna try not to engage to much and doge alot into a fighter?

or stwich the mecha modes al lyou want but you get the general tought i had.... wouled it be posible?

Beacause id love to be able to change the load outs of the VFs and decidewhat mode you want your vfs to engage in in fighter or battledriod ect it wouled be really nice... now i know the engin may limit you but so farm an i love what your doing dont give up and if uthink u cna have them fully transformable and havethe player decide when they shift then you know what go for it :)

As far I can tell, there is not way to work transformation into changing unit behavior. The swapping of unit behavior only has the visible effect of changing squadron formation. There are probably other changes but I have never seen my units perform differently when set to aggressive or defensive. it probably affects their chase and engagement range however.

Looking good. Though I hope that the models will have more animation to them. Like having them go into posses when you turn left or right and up and down or tuck in to spin type thing. They seem very lifeless at this time.

Also I hate lines and stuff for downloading video so I added the file to my site so others can just DL it faster.

There are probably other changes but I have never seen my units perform differently when set to aggressive or defensive. it probably affects their chase and engagement range however.

Most likely.

However, if there is a way to encode their mode via their behavior button that would certainly help in dealing with when they transform.

Like when they are in "guard" behavior they are all in battroid. when in agressive they are in fighter, etc...

As of now, I don't think that it is possible to have transformations behave like that, mainly due to the fact, that the triggers for the animations are very limited. I am looking into ways to code around this problem, but so far have not had any success.

ahhh sad i hope u figure somthign out for the transformation thats what was lacking in the HW 1 mod.. they only had 2 modes for each fighters.. battledriod or fighter or fighter and gerwalk.

unlessu make a VF-11 fighter and battle droid only and a second VF 11 fighter and gerwalk... so on the battle feild theyrssome variaty in modes used...or hey in the gundam seed mod i seen the gundamns have multiple modes acording to what add on pod u build on it u couled build sheilds.. certain weapons and it woueld apear on the 3 d model..... coulent u use that for the transformation modes?

Yes, you can, if I am understanding your question correctly.

When I model my units, I make them to the same or close to the lengths of the vessels in meters. The only things I, re-size are the fighter units, and that can be done easily.

Well my copy of HW2 has sat on the shelf for years ever since I got it just so I could play the Macross mod but as that died it has just stayed there still in its cellophane.

Now after watching the video its coming out :)

I used to mod Freelancer and FS2 so I will try and get up to speed and see what I can offer.

Yup is Sketchup, also a trial version :S dont have time for an a better program like Maya, 1 more question: is it possible to make also a transformation moviment on HW2 or is to much for the game?

Now i start to work on Battle Galaxy, but i think the trasformation is not possible, also in the movi, where the big wings on the back go where is in cruiser mode???? any one have any idea? or some good pictures?

Are those models intended for use in Homeworld 2? If so, you are going to have to use Maya to make the transformations. And also are you interested in joining my mod team?

Update

Success!!!!, Major breakthrough on the transformation front, I got the Macross Cannon to "switch" firing positions, when in different modes, and it works for multiple units. Crap load of code though, and pretty sure its not very efficient code (lots of nested if statements inside of nested if statements) but it works.

I think I can apply this to getting Valks to transform the way I want them to.

Now I really need help with models and textures. With this breakthrough I need to make transforming VF-11, VF-17 and VF-19s.

Update

Transformations for the NMC are now working perfectly :D.

Now, you can select different weapon settings for the NMC, Passive Mode - Cruiser, No Macross Cannon, Normal Mode - Cruiser, Macross Cannon, and Aggressive Mode - Storm Attacker, Macross Cannon. I am probably gonna put stat differences for each mode at later.

Still need to test code out on multi unit squads.

Also need to re-tweek the NMC's weapons though, too many missiles launch at the same time, major frame rate drop

Just did a test on multi unit squads, it is almost perfect, small hiccup when units are attacking, but it should be is easily fixed. I think full transformations can work for everything now.

It is still excellent. Since, I got the transformation code working, I will need to make the VF-11, VF-17, and VF-19 models transformable. Do you mind helping me out with those. Just tell me which ones you want to make. Or if you want to make other units, it is ok with me. I was thinking of putting in the VF-25.

Update

Modeling of a transforming VF-17D is about 75% complete. The backplate is giving me some problems. Critiques are welcome.

Also I realized there will be a balancing issue because the UNS has a crap load more unit types than the vajira (7 types vs 3 types).

I am open to some suggestions on how to remedy this issue.

I suppose you could add a few made up units in the style of the existing Vajira units or may be a few variants of the existing ones.

What are you doing for back grounds for the maps. in a lot of the mods I have seen they tend not to mod them, this I think makes the game look to HW2.

I only ask as I was looking into how to do it and have found some (maybe possible to use if owner says yes) nice good rez images. The owner has granted others permission to use them FOC so hope fully we could get it too.

I guess I could make variants of the vajira units. I am considering making the 2nd stage vajira as a swarmer unit (squads of 10). I am trying to stay away from making new units unless absolutely necessary.

I haven't really looked into backgrounds just yet, been focused on the transformation code and modeling as of late. But it sounds like a good idea.

you guys are my heroes. for the longest time i wanted to see new macross ships in homeworld. i was a ginormous fan of the hw1 macross mod and was disheartened when the old team couldn't complete their hw2 ver but you guys have filled me with much hope, esp since youre finding ways to tackle the animation problems the old team had! you guys rock keep up the amazing work!
