Ah perhaps its a CF gimmick? :p

Come to thk abt it, one reason to release this would be to fix the exploding triangles..then you would have a perfect 171 CF. (altho not in blue)

I wonder how many would fork up for another 171CF tho...

They really do need to change first the colors of them sneakers.

Seems like the theme of this valk is stripes, he might be out of place with shoes. :p

Didnt notice this before but even the back edges of the fighter mode wings are in white stripes.. ^_^

... except for the two perma fighter-mode dudes with busted knees

I didn't think the knees were a common issue. I already saw the fault: the assembly of one pin in the knee is reversed and this is making the knee to crumble from inside.

I was missing a measurement to finalize the Shapeways design, measure which is difficult to obtain from a "ok" knee, but obviously easy once the knee is broken, I had a guy in MP for this matter but never got the answer. So if you want to, send me a pm and I would try to make the fix quick (well not now, but feasible in a week or so I believe)

never trust ebay.

funny is that the most expensive one is the EX cannon fodder with the giant Sheryl decal that I completely forgot existed.

The Maruyama is the most expensive since it's a gift bundle with super parts and was a web exclusive so no cushy wholesale prices for retailers. I still found one for 20,000 in Mandarake right after they were released, however :D (retail is 24800)

The 171 Exes all are solid with no exploding parts so they are all safe to buy.

The CF's are hit and miss hehe. Whenever I feel like buying another I have to factor in the cost of buying shoulders off shapeways ($8-15 per pair depending on quality)

I absolutely love the 171's and have a total of 18 VF 171's / 171 exes O_o

Just wish they'd released the CF Ewacs version too :*(

the Maruyama is the coolest set, and yet I could never justify buying something that's basically identical to the alto I already have accept for the cool tampograph on the back.

I know what you mean. Despite how much I liked it I only ended buying one because lol

The Maruyama came with missiles, or are you talking about a different unit?

Maybe he meant the reaction missiles that came with the Armored Parts of the CF VF-171.

The knee isn't exactly a common issue, but when it happens, it's usually a complete disaster. Mine broke into so many pieces, I could use it for confetti.

It's really not so simple as a reversed pin, and the likelihood is, if you've broken the leg off, you probably need an entirely new knee joint, and the leg is so overglued together, you may destroy it worse trying to install a new knee.

Based on the guy feedback, only one side of the knee assembly was crumbled. So the fix was to do a new part of the damaged side only.

I don't remember well the details bc I don't have access to my computer files right now, I will have a look when I come back home

I have no 171s at all, and I'm really tempted by the relatively low prices on secondhand ones (on Jungle, Mandarake, etc.), particularly the RVF-171EX. Given the issues the Bandai 1/60 design had for some folks, should I take my chances on one of the existing releases, or wait and see if there is an improved version for Delta?

I appreciate any opinions. Thanks!

I like the design of the VF-171. It results in a much sleeker Batroid than the Yamato VF-17 for example. It has some bits that are maddening like the leg rotation that over engineered. Other than that I think the toy is good. The triangles shouldn't be a problem on the white VF-171EX toys. The key moment for was when I noticed that the main chunk of the torso actually locks into the spine of the toy. Before that the Battroid-Mode was a floppy mess. Afterwards it was quite enjoyable. This design is also a bit of a miss since you don't get the correct feedback from the mechanism. You can hear it click but the torso is still not locked into place.

Other areas on the toy like the trap-door behind the chest armor, the collapsing strut under the cockpit and the mechanism for the manipulators are annoying but not half as bad as the video reviews show once you got the hang of it. The leg transformation really is the crux of this toy. It is terribly frightening because you think that you break the toy every time you handle it.

If I could ask about the RVF-171 specifically, then, because it seems to have the least coverage online:

Does the belly antenna/wing make it impossible to attach the gunpod? And does it prevent the backpack from locking down flush like the normal 171EX? Finally, are any of the new parts (the belly antenna or the radome mount) removable, or are they built-in changes to the mold?

I love weird valks and that green-and-white color scheme is so sexy!

the antenna gets in the way of the gunpod and the backpack sticks out at an angle if you leave it on. you can take the antenna off completely, but I'm not sure about the radome.

anyways, I don't hate the VF-171, but I seriously question the mental stability of whoever designed it.
