Launch arm availability

I read here a while ago that whoever owns the masters for the 1/72 scale launch arm were going to do another run for Starship Modeler. Any idea when that's going to happen? Or did it already happen, and I missed it? Just picked up the Hasegawa SVF-41 Black Aces kit, and I'd love to emulate Tenjin's box artwork.

I haven't pre-ordered an item from SSM in 6 months+ but if they still do it this way, you are just added to the pre-order list & you will be sent an invoice once the kit becomes available again. They try to fulfill pre-orders before offering the kits for sale in their store so you are pretty much guaranteed a kit, you just got to complete the order within a certain time frame.

Edit for spelling

Re-molding has begun!

For this run, I've made an additional part, too. Gundamhead's original kit had a guitar string running down the length of one of the arm segments, acting as a conduit (I guess). But that really didn't work for casting, so I eliminated it, and had Starship Modeler replace it with a spring. But that didn't work as well as I'd like either, so I decided to do something about it this time.

So I took one of those springs, and found a piece of piano wire that fit inside it. Then I bent the wire to the needed shape, and ran he spring over it. A couple dabs of superglue on the ends, and it's ready for molding. And assuming it comes out well, it should make the kit that little bit better

Pre-ordering at SSM is essentially a reservation. When they're available you'll be sent a message asking whether you still want them, and if so to complete the purchase process. You don't pay up-front at the pre-order time. It's pretty important to pre-order, though, so Zero has an idea how many to order. PS, I saw the bits this weekend and they keep looking better and better!

Yep, the recast is out

I'm holding out for an original, though, since I'm confident Valkyrie will be finishing them up soon. ガンバレ!!!!!

Valkyrie has been really busy. In fact, I asked if he could do the next round of moldings again for my 1/350 series and he had to decline because he is so busy. I'll try contacting him for an update. - MT

Thanks! No rush to get one, but I do want to get one. Constant reminders so no one forgets. ;)

Happy 1 year anniversary of waiting! I can still wait, since I'm not really any closer to doing the Black Aces kit yet. Just want to let it be know that I'm still interested in buying one of these.

I don't want to step on any toes, but i would be open to the possibility of either purchasing the pattern for a reasonable price, or just offering casting service.

Does SSModeler own the pattern at this point still?

I have plenty going on, so again don't want to step on any toes, just would like to get my hands on one without building a new pattern if possible....

sounds like the subject is ripe for the picking. You'll have to start making smaller products Mike. ;)

I gave the masters back to SSM a while back. Work has been keeping me way too busy for most side work, so I'm pretty out of the casting biz...

No idea if SSM has gotten a new caster to take on the project. Couldn't hurt to ask John if you could do it!
