Ideas on a custom valk scheme

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. It has been a while since I have been around. I have looked through a few of the recent threads and realize that the Macross world has changed a bit. So 1/60 is now the hot valk to have? Does anyone collect the 1/48's anymore? Anyway some of you may remember the custom work I used to do, I did a few 1/48's back in the day. I have been considering doing a new project. I have a 1/48 valk and GBP set laying around and thought I would do it up. What I am struggling with at the moment is a paint scheme. I could always go back to the low vis that I did several of. Maybe a hex camo of some type or a free form camo. Maybe overall desert tan? What are your thoughts?

While I am considering doing this, please do not take this as I am back in the custom business....at least not yet.

Thanks for your input!

Good to see you back Kurt! Your 1:48 Custom's are stuff of legend around these parts. I always was a huge admirer of your work. I look forward to seeing whatever it is you come up with! A few people here still worship at the alter of the mighty Yamato 1:48, but generally everyone has moved on to the better (IMHO) 1:60 Ver.2 from Yamato and now Arcadia. I only had one 1:48 Roy and sold him off years ago.

Welcome back Kurt. Love seeing your customs on some of the members here. Btw derex forgot to mention. While everyone loving their 1/60's Valks and DX Valks, some new and old members are also digging the 1/100 Hi-Metal R releases as well. ;)

As for paint scheme suggestions. I'm thinking of something more of a minimalist look/feel. 75% Whites and 25% Grey overall look. Kind of like the colors for the Thunder Hummer custom? Or 75% Whitish Grey and 25% Periwinkle.

Anyways, looking forward to your next custom project.

I've been considering something Thunder Hummer-ish for one of my Jetfire butcherings. The starkness of that design has such a dramatic impact. Almost NASA-like.

Kurt! Welcome back!

Agreed, the Master File books have more than a few tasty schemes in them. Whatever you do will look top-notch though.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I love the ideas, this is exactly what I needed. I really like that last GBP above, just might do that. For those that may be interested, I will likely end up selling this when I am done. Start saving your pennies.

Cool! Looking forward to your WIP, sir! ;)

Did you scan that or find it online? I was trying to track down the different master file GBP schemes but couldn't find any online.

I extracted from the JPEGs that I downloaded years ago. ;)

For any new members who don't know of Kurt's work: you'll need quite a few pennies, but when you get your Valkyrie, you WILL know where your pennies went. And then you'll pick your jaw up off the floor.

what about the minmay guard?

Where did you get such wonderful decals?

I have a build kit that I want to do a guard on but haven't had any luck with markings.
