GI: 3d Printable Yamarcadia stand

Hey guys,

I was lucky enough to grab a Yamato launch stand when they first came out. As I have bolstered my collection, I am in need of some stands. I figured I might as well make my own. I came up with a quick idea for a stand to hold a valk in fighter mode. I will probably continue to develop this, and may end up with a configurable stand by the time I am bored of this.

First step was making sure I could model and print an adapter that would hold the Yamarcadia stand adapters. It fits amazingly well.

I have already modeled a stand. It is printing now. I will post pics upon its completion.

So far so good. I will edit this post with more pics when available.

The base is still printing. I did shrink the footprint down a tad. I have modified the arm to accommodate gunpods in fighter mode. The universal nature of a stand like this is in question until I try all of my valks on it. Pretty quick and easy to iterate, though.

Here is the base printed. 1/60 VF-1 for scale.

It holds weight pretty well.

I will take more pics when the revised arm prints. I already have an idea for a fully adjustable printed arm.

As neat as the overhang is, I will probably move the fulcrum back an inch or so. It is in no danger of tipping, but I think multiples would fit better on a shelf if the valks are more centered above the base. After I nail this down to my liking, and print a few, I will start working on the adjustable arm.

As it stands, my nicknames for these are; Fighter Arm (Clear), Gerwalk Arm (Red), and Battroid Arm (Blue). I am not yet sure if these work for each valk in this way. More printing ahead.

I printed out another base, and a Battroid arm:

How would a 1/72 scale kit look on one of these? I have zero toys, but plenty of Macross model kits that could use a cool stand.

Very interested to see how this plays out!

Me too! My wife has connections with manufacturers in Taiwan, and locally in the US through her work. I just wanted some stands for my valks, but if there is enough interest, this could be a neat little adventure.

I'm not one to make suggestions, especially on someone's project, and you probably know better, but have you tried maybe recessing the part where the arm connects with the base, to integrate the into a more distinct kite symbol?

I did think about that. I want it to be as sturdy as possible while looking as "light" as possible. I want the longer 90 degree straight peg the way it is for stability. I don't want an intricate keyhole, and I want the 2 curved arms as thin as possible. Erring slightly on the side of rock solid is more important to me, while still incorporating the kite. I am also thinking that the face of the stand could be used for whatever graphics you wanted to print out for each individual stand. The print out could be sandwiched with a clear cover matching the radius of the inner bezel. You could go plain kite, or have your own image (artwork, still, pilot, etc).

Those are looking beautiful, what type of printer are you using to make them?

Also, if the weight of the base ever becomes an issue, you could probably mold the base hollow on the underside, to let people attach metal weights to it.

I am using my Makergear M2 to print these out. I have weighted prints down with steel on some other projects, so that would always be an option. So far the weight, surface area, and fulcrum all seem to be working great on different valks.

I do not think it is feasible to print these out for people that want them. Maybe a select few if it gets to that. I doubt you guys want to drop $200 a pop for a stand. It would have to go to a more traditional form of manufacturing.

These stands are great!! Would you also considered making an S.M.S version also?

I didn't have a plan too, but it would be easy enough.

I didn't think about at first and realized the stands are designed for Yamato/Arcadia Valks. I think the stands are awesome, would you consider a version for Bandai DX Chogokin Valks too?

Thank you.
