Macross Mecha Manual Updated

Major Update

This update to the Macross Mecha Manual features 25 new profiles. For the sake of completeness, I am adding profiles with uncolored lineart (ex. Destroid Monster MK I). I feel it is important to include more mecha for the sake of visitor interest even if quality line art scans of these mecha cannot be obtained at this time. It is perhaps better to have an incomplete profile on the Macross Mecha Manual rather than no profile at all. Also, if visitors note the lack of a proper scan for a particular mecha, they may have the means to obtain a proper high resolution scan and would assist my website by submitting pictures.

I've received fan requests for Macross Chronicle scans and now is as good at time as any to state why most of the series will not appear on this website. Since the Macross Chronicle is in publication, I will NOT be posting any marquee art pieces from the series (such as the Temjin Hidetaka fold outs). In regards to the remaining artwork, I will be posting mostly low resolution scans from the Chronicle, unless the artwork was previously released on the Macross Frontier official website or in Japanese hobby magazines. Eventually the low resolution scans will be upgraded to high resolution, but only once publication of the Macross Chronicle has ceased. I realize some fans may be disappointed, but a major part of the Macross Mecha Manual is promotion of the Macross franchise and to do that, we fans must ensure products like the Macross Chronicle remain viable during publication. Once product runs are over, the art history of Macross can be archived for posterity. But until then, please pay for the quality Macross products legally to ensure more Macross is made in the future.

Nicely done, I'll review the Macross II sections to see if there've been any omissions or errors... I've got a bunch of new information, and should have that lineart you asked for ready soon too.

edit: Forget what I said earlier I just looked at it.

Anyway for the YF-24 manufacturer shouldn't it be Shinsei Industry and General Galaxy?

True it is Shinsei that gave the plans to fleets like Frontier and Galaxy but according to MC translations it was developed by both.

thanks alot! I've been waiting for the VF-0D for a long time :)

Edit: Nice... I didn't know that the 0D could attach the Angel pack.. I hope that when Yamato releases their 0D it will be able to do so as well!

does it officially say that somewhere? I would think it wouldn't since the new tail fins wouldn't line up with the slits in the wings the way the tails on the A and S models do.

as a side rant; as justifiable as it is, waiting for chronicles to go out of print is frustrating as all hell. I apologize for being too poor to afford hundreds of dollars in magazines that I can't read and less than a third of the content in each issue I'm interested in anyways <_< *goes off and grumbles*

On Macross Galaxy ship name at episode 6 the captain in the distress video calls the ship Mainland.

A later episode where Grace assures Sheryl she said that Mainland must have escaped and not give up hope. (It wasn't damaged to begin with anyway.)

Much appreciated, my friend. We'll get the Macross II section looking as sharp as the rest of the site.

>EXO<

I'm glad you enjoyed the update. It makes the work worthwhile.

SchizophrenicMC

Yeah, this update was big on revisions. Each new issue of the Chronicle brings attention to certain small details, especially the proper colors for the mecha. The Chronicle has really helped the visual translation of the M3.

RedWolf

Great catch! I'll correct that as soon as I get home today. As always, please submit any corrections for errors, grammar or spelling. Astute fans make the best editors :)

I remember the term "Mainland" but I'm not sure if that's a name, a class designation or a nick name. I'll try to find some way to include it in the text, but I'm not sure of the context.

ff95gj

Thanks, it's great to have the website shared with the fans. By the way, I love your signature :)

edwin3060 and anime52k8

I'll have to look at the VF-0D more specifically and make sure it's possible. I don't think there was anything specifically stating one way or the other. I'm not sure the vertical stabilizers would pose much of a problem for an Angel configuration, especially since they are folding mechanisms. But on the other hand, the "Angel" was an on-the-fly kind of configuration, so it may be limited to the "A" and "S" variants.

Regarding the Macross Chronicle, I knew I'd get some negative feedback and I'm sorry. Some kind of compromise had to be made in favor of the Chronicle and to maintain a perspective for the mandate of what my site is actually supposed to do. It is a tool to promote Macross fandom, but it's not a file sharing site. Anyway, most of us have discussed this before, so I'll leave it at that for now.

Sulendil Ang

Hey, thanks for being such an enthusiastic fan. Your support is appreciated.

REbirth

Thanks for saying so and keep visiting!

Dante74

A big thanks to you my friend. Your charts have yet again made the M3 that much better. I hope you liked the Zentradi/Meltrandi section. It was quite a lot of work to get all those Zentradi colored :)

I don't know if this has been pointed out before but the VF-1X Plus aside from the Super Pack also has the Strike version according to this image from a review of Macross Digital Mission VF-X.

Just confirmation from those who played it.

If so the VF-1 Strike is an expy alongside the DYRL Nousjadeul-Ger and Queadluun-Rau.

I'm really glad to hear that you're enjoying the Zentradi page. It was a great deal of work to color all those characters and I'm really pleased that fans are enjoying the results.

Ignacio Ocamica

You're welcome. Enjoy and keep visiting!

edwin3060

I'm actually not sure. They maybe able to accommodate rocket pods, but I can say with any certainty.

RedWolf

Ah, interesting. The games are always really difficult to cover. Virtually no information is readily available for them and I've never played them. Which is why the Macross G&A section is so sparse :)

Hehehe, so you like the site? ;) Just kidding, enjoy.

Not to mention there is little or no lineart of enemy mecha from these games.

VF-X brought us the Stealth Glaug, Reguld Custom, Stealth Quel-Quallie, Stealth Fighter Pod and the Feios Valkyrie. Which pretty much tells the Zentradi rebels don't rest on their laurels.

VF-X2 had the Hatchet class destroyer, Vandal gunship, Rorqual submarine, Gjagravan-Va land destroid, Annabella Lasiodora mobile weapon. There are still Anti-UN groups with their own original mecha.

M3 is the most surprising with the Zentradi Variable Glaug and the combiner known only as the Saishuuheiki.

Saishuuheiki

As you can see here it appears to be a mis-mash of prominent Zentradi mecha characteristics.

Ditto. It puts me in mind of the old Victory Gundam or an R-type end-of-level-boss.

What's the story behind it?

It is the final boss or last stage enemy.

Looking at it. It is presumably Zentradi. But I can't make heads or tails if it is piloted or an unmanned like a ghost. In M3 it is the last enemy you'll face. It appears M3 was trying to one up the last boss of VF-X2.

Feios Valkyrie aka Enemy Valkyrie or EVA

feios-battroid_small.giffeios-fighter_small.gif

Macross Plus PS2 had the Neo Glaug. Which SK based the Zentradi and UNS Variable Glaug for M3.

Ah, that explains the vibe I was getting from it. Its definately more video game in style than Macross.

That makes it difficult, considering I don't have any VF-1A Strike line art to color :)

How about having a subpictures of the Super Fast Pack fighter mode/gerwalk mode and Strike Fast Pack fighter mode/gerwalk mode under the VF-1X Plus Valkyrie?

Making them the optional equipment.

Mission 10-B Out of Town

Vindirance base is a West Point Class Macro-Training Base Ship

post-9033-1242440650_thumb.jpg

Okay lets sort out the three groups mecha that I can tell.

Vindirance

Red VF-1X Plus - Mariafokina Barnrose

VF-19A -Gilliam Angreat

VB-6 Koenig Monster

Destroid Tomahawk

Destroid Phalanx

Annabella Lasiodora

Vandal Gunship

Hatchet class destroyer

Meltran Gunship

Meltran Landing Ship Tank

West Point Class Macro-Training Base Ship

Black Rainbow

Regult Battle Pod

Glaug

Gnerl Fighter Pod

Black Feious Valkyrie - Timoshie Daldahnton

Gjagravan-Va Land Weapon

SB-10/10 Starwing

Critical Path Corporation

Red VF-17S (with Song Jamming System) - Manfred Brando

Destroid Tomahawk

Destroid Phalanx

Roqual class submarine

Meltran Gunship

Wilbur Garland the UN officer guy behind Black Rainbow and Critical Path Corporation

AIF-9B Ghosts (Mass production X-9 Ghost)

VF-11B

VF-22 - Wilbur Garland (Confimation needed)

VF-19A -Syun Tohma

Battle 13

From what I tell Vindirance are the good guys while Wilbur Garland conspiring with Black Rainbow and Critical Path Corporation are the bad guys.

I just wanted to add in to RedWolf's list that there are Destroid Defenders

for the Vindirance (Terrorist/Freedom Fighter) Group.

I thought that the Vandal Gunship and Hatchet Class Destroyer were more like capital ships rather than mecha because of their heavy firepower and they don't quite look like a valkyrie to me.

Is it the Black Rainbow Unit or the Black Ravens Unit?

I've seen both names as translations in the game walktrhoughs.

Weren't the Black Rainbow Unit initially a part of the Vindirance Group?

VFX2 has such a convoluted story to me.

I wish a Macross OVA could be made of this game!

Thanks RedWolf!

And thank you, Mr. March, for your great website!

Phalanx and Tomahawk, too.

I've seen both names as translations in the game walktrhoughs.

VF-X Ravens is the squadron the hero (player) of the game is part of.

Black Rainbow is one of the terrorist groups in the game.

Black Ravens doesn't exist in the game. Someone may have been transposing the two names.
