I've kicked the idea around of making one out of a Hasagawa model, but not a variable toy. There really are a lot of differences between an SDP-1 and a VF-1. The shape may look similar at first glance, but upon closer inspection, you see that almost every part is different. It's kind of like comparing an old F/A-18 to a new Super Hornet. From a distance, they look alike, but close-up they are totally different. Not to mention the fact that there are a lot of extra parts that would have to be made.
  2. This is great! I leave the forums for a month or two, and this gets introduced! Looking for a better YF-19 toy is how I found MW back in early 2002. I really began to lose hope that this toy would ever be made.
  3. I've always loved the pose of that biker scout. It's unusual in that it sort of shows the human side of an Empire soldier... some enlisted guy just hangin' out on his bike. The paint job and basing work look great.
  4. Thanks for that excellent review Graham. I've been on the fence about getting one of these, but now I reeeeealy want one. After seeing all the work they put into this thing, I can understand why it costs so much. That thing looks as good as the Hasegawa models AND it transforms.
  5. That has got to be the cleanest workbench I have ever seen Can't wait to see how the boat turns out.
  6. Where do you have the room for this fleet of 1/32 planes? Do they get their own room?
  7. It also works really well just getting painted on by brush. The stuff smooths out perfectly on its own so there are no brush strokes left behind.
  8. Those new figures rock. I wonder if that means there is to be a new Star Wars cartoon. I'm a big fan of the Shaak Ti route. She was a bad ass in the Clone Wars. As far as your passing the clone trooper off to a 'real' sculptor, I really don't see how someone else could do much better
  9. Looks great! Did you cannibalize another clone trooper for this (Ryuji style) or sculpt everything on your own?
  10. Great work on the Tumbler. That is my favorite Batmobile design by far.
  11. Was it an ankle, or a knee? I blew up an ankle really well a few years back with a volleyball, soccer combo. Hope it ain't too bad whatever it is. So, any one else going to make it to Wonderfest?
  12. Just because it's a CG model doesn't mean that "anime magic" can't occur. In Mac0, the VF-0 nose seems to shrink in battroid mode as do the wings. A different example are the destroyer droids in Star Wars Episode I. They can't transform without some parts passing through one another (based on an interview in CineFX). Yamato is dealing in the real world and can't fudge anything. The engineering on the VF-0 toy is really astounding in that not only does it look really good, but it also has to be strong enough to be handled regularly. It ain't as easy as they make it look.
  13. At least you have something cool to show for your impedements Lazyness (my impediment) produces nothing.
  14. I'd love to see a VF-4 or VF-11 from Hasegawa. A Yamato SV-51 would be nice too. Sadly, I don't expect to see anything that we haven't seen already.
