Question: If mercats/sealcats are from the sea, why does the stray one need to steal fish from the restaurant?

Would you go after a moving target, or one that's lying there just for you to pick up (and cooked to boot).

Go to Youtube. Search for "Cats being jerks".

It's pretty much a literary trope at this point.

Really like the VF-1EX dogfight.

BUT...

A noob pilot who can't even fly the fighter & suddenly can pull maneuvers just because of a song, & than the whole squadron praise him because of that ? Feels cheesy.

My favorit moment is when Messer mess mith Hayate's victory dance.

The squadron need to push him hard, really hard.

Note : will they ever stop the W finger gesture ? I had enough of it.

It's not clear how much time actually passes in that training sequence, but we actually see Hayate attempt those exact same maneuvers early in the episode and the training AI keeps trying to stop him and force his aircraft back to level.

That a total rookie actually manages to pull off something like Pugachev's Cobra in an ancient airframe like the VF-1 AND score a killshot on a military-trained ace pilot in simulated combat is pretty praiseworthy IMO. Fortunately, Messer's there to keep him from getting a swelled head.

Pretty sure Messer has taken it upon himself to ensure that Hayate either knuckles down or gets the hell out.

I mean, can they really be surprised if Hayate starts acting up? Arad recruited him with the explicit promise of letting him do whatever he wants. #blameArad

Ask, and ye shall recieve.

EIT: Querule has the best view in the house.

:)

I really love this show's attention to detail! I don't recall if Frontier had it, but it was quite awesome seeing the control surfaces on the VF-1 actually moving during the flying sequences.

I remember in episode 2 they showed it when Alto was maneuvering to rescue Ranka once the arm holding her had been blown off his Valk.

Will Messer end up decking Hayate? I do agree that he needed to be taken down a peg with that celebration of his.

IIRC Ozma gave Alto a knuckle sandwich on more than one occasion.

I thought what Messer did was totally necessary. No rookie should get ahead of themselves, not even after such a win. Hayate needed to be taken down a notch or 2. Hayate is spoilt and arrogant. He needed to realise he can't always do things his own way. Messer is the Sergeant Major (or equivalent) of the squadron

Agreed totally. He needs to understand the reality of the situation.

Some people are worried that Chuck is going to get offed later on, I'm worried it will be Messer when he goes on a final major mano e mano. Always a tragedy somewhere in the series. I sense from Ep 1 and then the OP something is going to happen.

I'm starting to miss the EX-Gears, but it's understandable since Delta Squad's role isn't strictly military. In fact, this conflict seems to be on a smaller scale than others.

Because it's a fat b@st@rd.

The EX-Gears are still there. You can see them behind the seats of the VF-31 and even the VF-1EX. Hence why it's called the EX model among other upgrades.

Just watched it and I gave it a negative vote.

It just felt like a bunch of stereotypically anime cutesy antics. Like they wrote it directly from the big book of anime cutesy antics. Everyone is still just anime stereotype. It is all so cookie cutter. Maybe if you combine the traits of the 3 lead characters you'll end up with 1 solid character. The traditional animation isn't blending that well with the CGI. I think this episode was 4 minutes plot and 16 minutes of filler.

I'll take a VF-1 in both of those colors.

can't wait for the DX Chogokin version :)

Betcha those vf-exs will be the new m&m (h&m?) valks (web exclusives, of course)

Umineko no Naku Koro ni or When the Seacats Cry.

I just noticed the twins both having hearts at one tentacle and a stars on the other. Star tentacles could be a mark of nobility.

Given the powers demonstrated by Freyja and Heinz why do I have a feeling Windermeareans were designed to be Emulators. Humans were more along the lines of batteries for the Bird Human and Evil Series.

Funny, both Alto and Hayate got yelled at for goofing off when they got a kill in their training but Hayate gets the sterner lesson. Guess watching someone get turned into a meaty paste had a bigger impact on Alto? :)

Because Alto's main problem wasn't goofing off, it was being overly aggressive and cocky. Hayate on the other hand has already been established as someone with a tendency to goof off.

Out of all the main singing heroines in Macross, I feel Freyja has the best acapella voice.

Even if her last song was pretty good I disagree, as I still think that Sheryl have a better voice acapella than Freyja.

Hum... after this episode I'm beginning to think Macross Delta is a fairy tale story, with Freyja being a lost princess of the Windermere Kingdom. Red Hood , Apple, winter kingdom are very symbolic of fairy tales.

And Hayate's necklaces reminds me of Lone Starr from Spaceballs.

Best episode so far, but that doesn't say much. The VF-1EX dogfight was actually quite good and it's the first time I've been able to say that about any element of Delta so far, except the Valk designs. And Freyja was less obnoxious than usual this time.

The rest? No, thanks. Slapstick humor can be fun and all, but it's far from what I'm looking for in my Macross stories. And why is exactly every character still so damn stereotypical in every way?

And I don't see what genetically crossing cats and fish would be good for.

I voted positive for ep3 but only b'cos of the VF-1EX action! I officially give Bandai my blessing to make them both in a DX version! (but strictly only those two VF-1) So Noel you'll have to (kinda) update you signature now! hehe! :p:D

is it me or is mirage cute when mad?

yes she's a cutie when angry! :wub::lol:

It's the price of anime originals. Without established/quality source material the writers tend to fall back on cookie cutter character templates. It's not bad for business either, fetishes for every demographic.

Hayate is a gerwalk/battroid specialist with fancy moves though, it's just that he is an inexperienced (fighter) pilot. The song restored his confidence and allowed him the focus to use his strengths (switching to gerwalk/battroid in mid air). The moves were all his.

What bugged me was the whole catfish shenanigans which I feel were silly and completely unnecessary.. the singing still kinda irks me a little but im coping with it easy enough I guess.. Though its nothing like M7 thankfully! <_<

I just wanna see more Valkyrie on Valkyrie action! :D

I hardly see how Delta characters are any more cookie cutter than Macross. Its not fair to judge since there are only 3 episoes. Hikaru, Minmay and Misa were hardly origial and deep characters when they first appeared. They had an entire series to develop over the course of 34 episodes.

Characters being based on tropes isn't anything unexpected and is par for the course for most anime. It's nigh impossible to create a character and not have them represent some trope. Besides, in the first few episodes of a show, they help audiences get an initial understanding of the character.

I'm more concerned about the large number of characters in the cast, or more precisely, how it seems they've "front loaded" them where we get introduced to them quickly. Compare with Frontier where they introduced the characters much more slowly (e.g. we didn't get introduced to Klan and her team until episode 4) and the series seemed to grow more naturally into a larger cast. Delta on the other hand dumped alot of characters on us right at the start.
