yeah. it just really isn't what it used to be. just look at the new generations of fans.

am pretty sure us fans of the older series wouldn't be doing this shenanigan:

srsly, Frontier-fans?

W T F ?!

The Ranka ones say "hard-on" WTF is right

A society that embraces destructive voilent behavoirs over healthy sexual one's. Obviously some things need changing.

Totally agree, its a preprogrammed culture that has its priorities backwards

I doubt it. The SDF Macross doujins drawn back then were probably just as raunchy..

Oh I'm suuure fans of older super robot genre in 1982 also complained on how the genre and its fans is not what it used to be.

I lived in a place where Mazinger Z and Macross (and every robot series in between, with the exception of Gundam) were aired on TV within a 5 year time span. The series were aired in the order of their production date, and the production quality (animation, mech design, storeline) of each new series was generally better than the previous ones.

But I've never develop lingering interest in anything else (from that time period) other than SDF:M. Just saying there was a clear improvement in SDF:M when compared to stuff that came before, not just because SDF:M was reflecting the culture of th 80. =)

On the other hand, I just remember I liked Gurren Lagann a lot. Even if GL was full of fan-service, they weren't as cringe inducing as some of the ones from Frontier. =p

The Ranka ones say "hard-on" WTF is right

That was my reaction at first when I saw the artwork like 3 years ago. =p

But I am so desensitized now, that it's actually likable... in fact I like it better than the Monster Girl one (butt nakid Ranka is better less wrong than Ranka strip teasing).

I was talking about fans actually. My point is that those fans we ridicule now will also look down on newer fans. In future version of MW, those Frontier fans will write WTF in big bold letter expressing their disbelief on shameful act of new fans, And claimed that they would never do that. Then when confronted that Frontier also have fanservices and silly stuff they claimed that it's not as bad as newer ones. And then goes on and on how the franchise isn't what it used to be :p . See, it's a circle not one way to degradation.

GL has advantage for being a new franchise. If it was a sequel of 80's anime, people will complain on its fan-service. It doesn't matter if they're relevant/well-executed or cringe inducing. People, or specifically old fans will complain because it's not what it used to be.

but Now it's so much easier to get copies of Porn Doujins. And personally, I think the production quality of newer stuff is better.

To me, that's change for the better.

I dunno Renato-senpai, maybe I was overstating Fyana naked in a capsule but she does get a number of Jijirium shower scenes as well :3

Among some fellow Votoms fans, we have found that naked capsule scene to get oddly fetishistic just through the sheer number of times it got trotted out.

In the end, I don't think it matters when Fyana is still a pouty lipped woman with sad eyes who wears a skin tight jumpsuit most of the time XD

Even my copy of the Blue Knight compilation books have comics from 1987 with her and Cocona being cutesy and moe. And yes they even do the "Fyana is undressing in front of everyone but she doesn't understand why that's inappropriate" thing.

And these are official comics that ran in Hobby Japan.

I think I'm gonna go with the general idea that Macross (or anime in general) didn't change, it's just most of us stopped being perverted teenagers.

I'd like to imagine a world where people didn't write WTF in big bold letters to begin with. Also no more LOL, EPIC, FTW, or XD. Just the general death of internet speak would be great. I'm not a lit nazi either. I just find that it contributes nothing to a discussion and just makes the poster come across as an idiot. At least SA exists where we ban/mock it on sight. 4chan is pretty untolerant towards it as well.

Now for the actual content of your post:

The internet has given us the ability to judge kids and adults for acting like morons all over the world. Before then we were unaware of how stupid we were acting and thus could not deliver judgement. It's also awakened our eyes to the depths of how low corportations will go to market to the crazies. Yet still we persist in connecting these horrible things to the shows they were born from. Remember all the spiderman and other super hero underwear that they sell at Walmart and other similar stores? That crap has been around forever. Yet you don't see people posting in threads on comic book sites about how it's ruining comic book super heroes just because some moron somewhere ate some underwear with a female character on it.

This is the reality you face when liking anything on the internet. Someone or something somewhere is going to take it too far and ruin it's enjoyment for you. They are going to do it through either perversion, idiocy, or plain old stupid fanboy/fangirl-ism. I find myself wishing that everything on the internet had horrible disgusting porn created of it sometimes. Not for the purpose of recreational masturbation but just so that everything anybody ever loved would be ruined. This way no one could use any aspect of how crazy a fandom is as justification for not liking what it was originally based on. We would all become hardened to the crazies and thus human conversation would transcend the gravity of the depraved.

Transcend the gravity of the depraved...I like it :)

We need an image macro :)

Sorry I took so long to respond to this. It's definetely a very Char-ish thing to say. I don't really like Char either. I always found him to be overrated as a pilot both in-series and out.

Never underestimate the power of large groups of stupid people. --anon

Very true.

I have not read all the replies but I agree to some extent.

I am also the same with Gundam.

I love SDFM,DYRL,Plus and 7.

Zero is where I lost interest.

I will always love Macross and I checked out Frontier but it did nothing for me. I will just enjoy the ones I like and I dont need to bash on the ones I dont. I just choose not to discuss them.
